Dear everyone,

I have tentatively crept onto this side. Yup last week, to our complete surprise (on third go), we got a +. (To be honest, we were convinced it hadn't worked again. We spent an hour consoling ourselves, then to return to the bathroom and pick up the stick and discover two lines !! - but that is another story).
But I'm convinced that things aren't too great. I got 72 HCG on 16day post ovulation (??) and feel absolutely fine, no sickness, no bleeding. My body feels very quiet.

I know this is stupid, but is this normal?

Nicky
1st IVF -ve. 2nd IVF abandoned 3rd IVF +ve but m/c at 8 wks. 4th IVF 1 embie - not looking good.5th IVF Short Protocol - more eggs er.. 5 actually - but -ve AGAIN. What now? Me 39 DDH 48. Unexplained
Nick

First of all anything over 25 is a +ve. The thing they normally look at is successive hcg levels to check that they are doubling every 48 hours or so. Personally I got a bit obsessed with looking at comparative tables of hcg levels and have to advise that it doesn't help your nerves at all. I seemed to be ok at day 12 and 14 and then suddenly well below the tables on day 16 even though my levels had doubled every 48 hours so I got all panicked about it and then (eventually) everything was ok on the scan. So please don't read too much into any tables you find. There are always exceptions to the rule.

Re symptoms - real sickness probably won't hit till week 6-8, if at all as 40% of people have no m/s at all. no bleeding is a good sign. I didn't have any at all.

My personal feeling about all these tests and scans now is that I'd rather not have them at all as if anything is going to happen (ie m/c) I would rather it happen without prior warning than know about it beforehand and be told to go home and wait for it to happen. I have read so may reports of people being told to do this and then the baby turned out to be fine. All that agony and worry for nothing. I even thought about refusing to have the 8 week scan and just wait till 12 weeks (or preferbly till the baby is born)!!

Nick, it's going to be a long haul the next couple of weeks, can't pretend any different but if there was anything I would have done differently it would be to keep as busy as possible to keep your mind off thinking about things that might go wrong cos believe me prior worrying does not lessen the pain if it does go wrong and is completely useless if everything is ok. I find it hard to put this into practice myself but I am trying to from now on (plus my relatives will not let me near any more internet research sites)!!!

beckym xxx
Hi Nick,
Congratualtions and welcome to this side!
As Becky said try not to get too hung up on the hcg readings - have you been given a scan date yet? The time between now and then will drag so be warned.
Thinking of you,
Take care,
Di
Nicky
WE can be head cases together if you like - HCG rates - I mean honestly we are all a nightmare comparing levels and sizes and follies and bumps and nuchals etc aren't we - human nature I guess. I as you probably have gathered have been pg before - one ectopic and one lost at 20 weeks - yikes! and this time do not feel at all pg - no sore boobs which is my main one - I mean normally they go like torpedo's and feel like a cheese grater has been on them - this time nothing and no nausea. I am 4 weeks and 5 days.
WE are all different and each pg is different and each women is different - I know Sarah on here had fet and no syptoms at all with twins - no sickness etc for yonks and then hardly at all - she is about somewhere about to give birth!
We will all worry for one reason or another - HCG is another - I know you say this is day 16 HCG - so was mine but it also depends when the embryo's implant - some hang around having a think about it and then go for it - others are like a bull in a china shop and go for gold straight away!
Good luck and hang in there
Love
Tracey
xxx

Hi Nick,
Congratulations! The next two weeks are harder than the 2ww, but if at all possible stay as relaxed as you can - you've seen two lines, so you're pregnant!
My clinic have a policy of not doing HCG bloods, so we had to rely on our HPT, and I didn't feel especially pregnant, or know what to expect really, as I've never been pregnant before. Nevertheless, at the 6wk scan, there was the heart flickering away, and it was after that that I started to feel tired and sick. It'd be pretty early for you to be feeling symptoms yet. Try not to worry - you'll have them soon enough!
Best of luck with everything, and here's to a happy, pregnant, sober Xmas! Beck x
Hi Nick,
Just want to ditto what some of the others have said. The clinic I went to did not take blood tests or measure HCG levels and I'm really glad they didnt. It was either - or + and take it easy as the first few weeks are the most vulnerable, etc. You can have too much information.

I too did not have any pregnancy symptoms at all til about week 8 or 9 when had a bit of sickness which went away at about week 16. Boobs never have really been painful, which I was told is fine and to think myself lucky!! (now 26 weeks).

My own theory is that the best thing you can do is imagine only the best happening to you throughout your pregnancy and imagine the end result and try to just relax in the first weeks as much as you can.

Congratulations!!!!! lots of love, Jo. XX

Hi Nick

Firstly congratulations. I ditto what the others have said. My clinic don't to HCG blood levels either so I couldn't worry about those. My boobs don't hurt and never have, I have never felt PG either and no peeing every 5 mins and getting up all night. Have had BAD sicness in the worst possible way though and although I am 13 weeks today my tummy is flat, flat , flat and I want it to bulge. Funny that after the years of yo yo dieting and sit ups I now want a tummy!! Crazy bird.

If you get the sickness - good luck, if you don't - be grateful!! Look after yourself and drink lots of water.

Love Dagny x

Hi everyone,

Thank you so much for your words of advice. It really has reassured me a lot. However, I know I will be steeling myself when we go for our first scan. (The steel jacket appears every week these days - follies, eggs, embies. (Argh) ) I feel totally unprepared for being this side so your few words really helped.

It really does take the magic out of things when we go on about HPT tests etc... Honestly!

I don't know about 2 weeks dragging.....I think the whole time will drag...30 or something, weeks?

You see, complete novice.
Nicky
