Failed fertilisation - no binding

Post by seejae »

Hi all – what a great support group!

Hey, I just did my first IVF cycle – or rather, failed to complete my first IVF cycle actually. There is where I was hoping someone might be able to shed some light. We had positive outcomes all the way to fertilisation… and then had complete, unanticipated failure. Everything got the tick off to start, but the next morning the eggs and sperm had completely failed to ‘bind’ (so the sperm didn’t even make it to penetrating the egg). Plus, the sperm weren’t looking good at all by that stage.

Has anyone else had this experience? I was told there could be numerous reasons – they can’t tell me the exact cause. And searches on the internet only bring up scientific journal articles. Next time they’re going to perform ICSI, but in addition to the usual anxieties to manage, I now have an added unknown to deal with!

If anyone’s had the same outcome, or has some helpful information I’d really appreciate it!

Thanks - Catherine

Sorry for your cancelled cycle, I can imagine how dissapointing that is.
I don't have any info for you specific to your situation except that things look good for your future because we performed ICSI cause my husband sperm have "issues". I had 24 follicles, 20 were mature and 19 fertilized! So, success is probably right around the corner for you. I wish you all the luck in the world.

Hi.

I totally understand how you are feeling because same happen to me, as you can see on my signature...

I did my 1st ivf and none of the eggs were fertilized.

This could be due to sperm quality. At the beginning we were told to do ICSI but on the day of EC his sperm had improved so we did IVF.

On my 2nd cycle we did ICSI and from 18eggs, 17 were mature, 12 were fertilized 2 put back in and 2 frozen.

So hopefully if you do ICSI on your cycle you may have better results.

Good luck.
