Foetal heart beat - does anyone know when this is detected??

I've just had a 7 week scan, unfortunately they could not detect a heart beat. Does anyone know the chances of this being 'normal' - they want to re-scan in 1 week to check. I feel totally devastated. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Zana, It is very difficult to pick the heartbeat up from such an early stage, I think it was about 9/10 weeks when you see it on the scan but it is much later when you go to the midwife. Try not to get uptight about it, I am sure other people on the board may be able to help you a little more. Love Shell. 34wks 2d pg xx

zana, i know this must be really distressing for you. some of us have had 7 week scans and seen the heartbeat and in some cases it is not that easy to see the h/beat at this early stage. early pregnancy units have better success probably because their equipment is more sophisticated and the staff more experienced in these situations. i know that some of the girls here have been to an epu for this reason. if waiting is too much (and it would be for me) then contact your local epu and get another scan booked. phil x
