Nurse freaked me out!

I know I am pumped full of Stims but I am worried and wondered if anyone had experienced this? I started on my Stims (Menopur and Bravelle) and after 4 days of normal dosages, I had 5 follies on the ultrasound, so they upped my meds. I go in tomorrow to see if more follies have grown, but when the nurse called me to tell me to up them because my estrogen levels were still really low, she said that if I didn't grow more that they would cancel my ER.. I know she is a nurse and my DH told me to not listen to anyone except the doctor, but I am worried now! Has anyone else started with a low number and then bumped up the Stims and ended up with a nice number of follies? HELP.. my mind is so stressed..

I have had 5 IVF cycles. The early ones like #1 & #2, I had my meds upped on me. I think in the beginning they were trying to find out what worked for me. I don't think it's unusual for them to adjust the meds. They are probably trying to figure out the "right" dosage for you. Don't let this nurse "push" you around. I have a nurse now that I am not crazy about. But when I switched to this clinic from a different one, she was ready to switch me to IUI after 9 days of stim. I said I had questions for the dr. and one of the re did call me back (not mine b/c she was on vacation). but I had 2 questions for her. One was whether or not IUI would actually work b/c of the endo I have and one of my tubes was removed. Then I mentioned that at the other clinic I usually took the stim from between 11-14 days, so why was I being switched so early? Bottom line was that they kept it at IVF.

Stick to your guns and if there's any questions, I would say see if you can speak to the dr. But I've had my doses made higher after the cycle began and it wasn't a big deal. They are probably trying to figure out what the right dose for you is

thanks so much.. This is my first IVF.. I guess I was happy the the estrogen level in my bloodwork was low so that they could actually give me more stim meds.. Guess I am just praying that I go in tomorrow and they see tons of follies after upping the meds the last 3 days.. I feel little sharp twinges in my ovaries so I keep telling myself that they are follicles popping out.. lol.. I love my whole team except this new girl. She needs new bedside manners. This is so tough for all of us and I appreciate your response..

I stayed on the meds for 3 weeks! Menopur and Bravelle. My follicles were so stubborn! They did not grow until they had me do 4 and 1 then they took off. Still slow but they got up there. I would not listen to the nurse just the dr. Nurses see the same thing day in and out and may not think before speaking because they have been at the job for so long. Who knows. Dont give up though! They were thinking of canceling mine but then they finally started to grow....who knows!

Amy: I had only 5 follicles last week at my 4 day check in, too. I am 39 so this did not concern them. I was kept the same on my meds and today at 9 days of stimming I now have 14 follicles. It is very normal to change your meds while on them. My nurse calls me after each visit to tell me whether to change them or not. So far I havent....not to say I wont change them soon. It is very common. It is very early yet...and I am sure you will have lots of follicles tomorrow. So no worries...there is plenty of time for your follicles to grow. For this nurse to be saying that...is really wrong. Chin up ....positive thinking. Let us know how it goes tomorrow. Grow Follies Grow!

My DH is such a great man, but he can't really understand what I am going through.. You guys are just such a lifeline.. I am a cancer survivor.. my Mom took DES when she was carrying me and I ended up with chemo treatments at 22 years old! I am 37 now and hoped that it would not affect my fertility. I guess I have naturally low estrogen to begin with as the Lupron made me feel horrible and the Stims actually make me feel better. thank you, thank you for helping me keep my chin up!

Hi Amy,

I had only 5 follicles on my day 10 scan. My medication was upped too and I was told that there was the potential of the cycle being cancelled if I did not respond. Eventually my ER and ET date got pushed back and they managed to retrieve about 12 eggs, 6 were mature and 4 fetilised. So hang on in there. don't stress yourself out over numbers. As most people will already have told you, it only take one.

If you had 4 or 5 follies.. how many are they wanting to see?? And if those mature why on earth would they cancel? I mean it take one and how many are you transfering back?

I only have one ovary so I hope they aren't wanting a whole soccer team out of me LMAO

I know w/ my clinic, they would like to see at least 3 mature eggs. But then on #5, they saw 2 that were bigger (about 17/18 and one smaller one that they didn't wait to get bigger--it was 13)

Amy, I am sure that your numbers will go up - I did not have my retreval until day 18 of my cycle - so you still have lots of time!

My meds were reduced due to high E2 levels - and I had 31 follicles and I only got 4 eggs! (two were good two not good)

So what I am saying is it you will likely grow nice beautiful eggs in the follicles you have and they will all be of good quality.

Always remember that it only takes ONE!!!

I, too, am a late bloomer

so don't worry- you're doing great. As each of us is different, we require unique stimuli to get things going - my doc said when I freaked out about low numbers - even having kept track of my previous cycles could not predict how I do on the meds they just start out with what their best guess is to which meds and to how much you will respond
- so that is why you go in for BW/US regularly - they tweek the meds, and PRESTO!!! your ##s will go up- there are probably some wee follies hiding behind the bigger ones- and they're ready to grow
Don't fret - they've pushed back my ER 4-5 days now as I really didn't start responding to the meds until day 6

hang in there, and tell that nurse to bite his/her tongue!!!! -

I went in for my BW/US today afer they upped my Stims.. Good news is that the Follies I had are growing and my uterine lining is getting nice and thick. She saw a possible new follie but it is really small. I take 2 more days of Stims then back on Thurs 1-24 to see if my 12's got to 18-20.. Those follies are huge on the U/S and I thought there might be more than one egg inside, but my doc said No.. I have 5 really nice ones so hope they keep growing.. Baby dust to us all!
