Cancelled Cycle

Post by cheerygoat »

Hi Everybody
Today is a very sad day. I wonder if I am devastated today how would I handle a negative pregnancy test? Anyways, after 2 weeks on bcp, 2 weeks of lupron and 3 days of GONAL F and Lupron our IVF cycle was cancelled on Day 4 after my bloodwork was done. Apparently i did not respond? How can they know that after just one blood test and only 3 days of Gonal F???? I am so confused. Basically I have to wait for my next period and call on day 2 which brings me to my question: Does anyone know how long it might take for me to get my period? I stopped my injections as of today and after stopping the bcp 2 weeks ago I am still spotting so I might not even know when my first day of my period is!! THIS IS ALL SO CONFUSING AND FRUSTRATING! Any advice would be greatly appreciated....thanks guys.

Cheerygoat,
I'm so sorry to hear about your cancelled cycle. I know how frusterating and upsetting it is. My 1st cycle was cancelled in November after stimming for 13 days and I am just now about to start stim meds for my 2nd cycle. My cycle was cancelled because my follicles were growing too slowly and my estradiol level, although it started out fine, dropped at the end of my cycle. It does sound a little unusual that they cancelled you only after 3 days of stim meds. I would feel free to call your doctor to ask for more explanation. At least you'll have an idea of where you should be and how you were off what they are looking for. I was glad to know what my numbers were so that I could research a little on more own to educate myself for the next cycle. I'm also going to make sure they give me my numbers after each Dr. visit for this cycle, so I'm more aware of what was going on. I would also suggest asking questions at each visit about what the numbers mean. Seeing as I felt completely blindsided when my cycle was cancelled, I want to make sure I'm forcing them to give me all the info straight-up.

With respect to AF, my doctor prescribed Prometrium to induce my period. It took about 7 days on Prometrium and then AF started. The bad part about Prometrium is it caused severe dizziness. Maybe because you weren't on stim meds as long, they don't think you'll need help getting AF.

Hang in there! The worst part of all of this is trying to be patient, which at least for me, does not come naturally.

Hello Cheerygoat. I am very sorry to hear about your cancelled cycle. I too know just how you feel. I have had two cancelled cycles due to being a poor responder. There are many things they can try to change this. in my case, they think that my body did not agree with the suppresents, and we are going to try what they call an antagonist approach.
Your Re can also try not putting you on the bc pill and use microdose lupron istead of the full strength. This could help your body to respond better.
I am not an expert and can only offer to you what i have learned (sadly through experiance). I hope that it helps.
I would advise you to know your E2 numbers like RBjean said. If you know where you stand, it is a little easier to understand why the RE's make the desicions that they do. that is not to say it makes it easy to accept, but IVF is an adventure and you have to prepare yourself as much as possible for where it might take you.
God bless you,

Thank you RBJEAN and alittlegrace for taking the time to respond to my concerns. I think I will call the clinic tomorrow for some answers and possibly look into other clinics that will take the time to answer my questions. God bless and good luck to all of us.
