Bad Cold..Is there anything I can take?

Post by Michellyn8 »

Hi,

I have a terrible cold and I don't want to bother my DR on Sunday. Is there any cold medicine that people were told was ok to take. I am in my 23rd week with twins. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Michelle

Michelle-
I know that Tylenol is okay to take, and it should help with some of the symptoms. Other than that, not sure. Just plenty of rest and tea. Feel better!

Michellyn8:

I, too, came down with the cold over the weekend. My sinuses are acting up. I wanted my boss to take all of my teeth out. Each time my sinuses get bad, all my upper teeth act like a toothache. It's a classic symptom, though.

I didn't want to bother my OB/GYN on late Saturday or Sunday to ask if there is anything safe to take while I'm in the condition I am in.

Thanks for the suggestion sharishu. I'm getting a little paranoid about taking anything at the moment. But I'll check w/ my doctor in the afternoon. His office opens at 12pm today.

Hi,
I just got my list of acceptable over-the-counter meds during pregnancy from my OB doc. This is for their patients over 12 weeks:
Colds/congestion
-saline nose drops OR Afrin Nasal Spray 1 spray each nostril once a day at bedtime for 3-4 days
-sudafed 30mg one every 4-6 hours as needed
-benedryl 25mg every 6 hrs as needed OR actifed or chlortrimeton
-claritin 10mg one everyday as needed

You may want to check with your own MD too. Most have lists of OK drugs to take during pregnancy. You don't have to suffer through a cold with only tylenol(unless you are in the first 12 weeks)

Hi 2ndtimer:

Thanks for the list. It's exactly what my doctor recommended even though I'm in my 12th week.

Hi,

Thank you for all the suggestions. I spoke with the nurse today and she said Tylenol, Plain Robitussin, and Benadryl were all safe to take. I have used the saline but that has not helped that much with this cold. It usually works when I am just a bit congested. Going back to bed now........

Take care,

Michelle

Baby B,

I was so sick. I took only one Benadryl and one tylenol evry six or so hours and that worked wonders. And I was in pretty bad shape...I looked like I could have been an extra in the movie Outbreak : ) FYI my Dr. seemed hesitant towards the sudafed although it seems most other Dr. said it was okay. Feel better!
