Embryo Arrest Question

Post by Mbre »

Hi Ladies, I have a question, have any one of you ever have all of your embryos arrest but then on next set of stimms make any good quality embryos on the next go around?

Heres my situation
I stimmed 2 yesrs ago made 5 follies( I have a low count, im 27) and 3 had eggs and 2 fertilized but only 1 made it and did a 3 day grade 1(grade 1, being the highest). BFN
Seconf go round did natuarl ivf where i used my natural cycle (the one egg we make monthly) and it fertilized and made it to blast by made it to blast on day 6. (was given a Grade 2)BFN

Went to anotehr re had an aggressive protocol and received 17 eggs only 7 matured and all 7 fertilized. By day 3, I had 3 7-8 cells with little frag and the other 4 were slow growing 4-6 cells. I was supposed to have a transfer today and what do you no I get a call saying all of them arrested!

Now, If this would have beeb my first ivf cycle i would be floored. Because the doc said looks as if my eggs are chromosomly abnnormal and i may never have a child!) But then i look at previous cycles where i did not stimm aggresively and i hade a perfect 3 day cells( but got a bfn)
And on my 2nd try with a natrual cycle the 1 embryo made it to blast, just a little slower!

So my question is, has anyone encounter such a problem but made it to acheive prgnancy?
Also anyone recommend any good clinics in NY. NJ?

I am so bummed, but optomisitic that I will keep trying( I have 3 more attempts with my job, thank god for them, if i didnt have this insurance, i would just die, i would have died after it didnt woek out on the first try).
Might i add that on boths prior ivf, docs never said anything about eggs looking funny( as my new re said!) and also my transfer were nightmare and they all lasted 30+ minutes. And this i am told is a bad thing because it disrupts the uterus and may cause the egg not to implant. SO i am cliinging on to the fact that that is the reason my embryo did not attached and not because it was chromosomly abnormal like my doc says all of my eggs are.. I am awaiting the March Cycle, but might change docs, i think maybe a lab problem or am i buggin?

Hey there, Mbre!

I have something similar that happened. I went thru my first IVF in August and had 21 eggs retrieved / 15 fertilized and on day 3...all of them had arrested except 3. We decided to xfer all 3 on day 5 - BFN :( :( :( My RE said it appeared to be egg quality and suggested we try again, so we are just starting our 2nd and probably last IVF (no insurance left after this round) :x :x :x

Anyways, this time my RE is going to lower my stim dosages and have me stim for extra day or so...hoping that growing my eggs slower will result in better quality.

I hope everything works out for both of us.
Best of Luck!!!
Jill
Me, 29 and DH, 34 -- TTC #1 for 6 years
IVF #1: Aug'07 -- BFN -- 3 embryos xferred,no frosties
IVF #2: Mar'08 -- BFN -- 5 embryos xferred, no frosties
My IVF journey is now over and I am very sad!

Hi Mbre,

I am so sorry for the frustrations you have gone through. I don't have any personal experience with embryos arresting, but I wanted to recommend a clinic for you.

You had expressed interest in a NY/NJ clinic. I have used the Kofinas Fertility Institute located in New York Methodist Hospital in Park Slope, Brooklyn. The doctors and staff have all been incredibly kind, helpful and professional.

Good luck! I hope everything goes well for you!

Thank you ladies for boths sharing. Jill_Mark, I agrree with you about lower stim doasge. I thought that as well, becasue in my prior ivf cycle(at another clinic) i had much less dosage and made much better quality eggs grade a! but bfn due to the fact my transfer was almost 45 minutes! anyway my re recommended a more aggressive protocol! when he said that i said time for a new doc, how can he possibly think that i need a more aggressive protocol. I spoke to the director of the program and he suggested that my protocol be changed. because if i made quality eggs before i can do it again! some doctors really do not know everything,. becasue my re told me all my eggs were abnormally chromosone and i wld never conceive! i just listen and not phased by him b/c i saw for myself a good blast! anyway i have a consult with the director who is going to take over my case and i will keep you updatd and please keep me abreasted of you new stims and cycle.

4ourbaby, Thanks I will definitly call them and have them consult!

Hi Mbre,

It sounds like you are a little more positive now since speaking with the Director. That's great! My second fresh IVF cycle was a little different from my first in that they changed my meds a little to get better quality eggs. It sounds similar to what you went through.

I am soooo happy with my clinic even though I have not achieved a pregnancy yet. (I did have a chemical after my FET). I completely trust them and know that they are doing everything they can to get me pregnant. Also, I can't imagine them saying anything to me like your doctor said to you regarding the quality of your embryos. Maybe I misunderstood what you wrote, but it didn't sound very professional to me. If you have any concerns, I think it is great to get a second, or even third, opinion.

Keep us updated! I am going in next week for a laparoscopy to remove an endometrioma on my left ovary. After I start my next period, we will begin a new fresh IVF cycle (#3!). Maybe we'll be starting around the same time?

Take care!

hope,
I havent yet spoke to him in detail however i have a consult with him next tues. I will inform you..... And i also spoke to other doctors who aggree with you and I, lower stimms but better quality! but my re wants to increase! i said nono.... so after i consult wit the director he will let me know i hope. But the director did say a little tweaking of the meds should do it, and hope, as your name states, hope is all i need!. a littleray of it reather than" your eggs are bad"< thats what he said! he wasnt mean but he was very blount and i kept saying to him but i made quality eggs before and he said well obviously not b/c you didnt get pregnant and i said nu my transfers were 1 hour long and i was in total pain and he goes o maybe thats a reason, then he says well the reason you never got pregnant on your own is that you make bad eggs! and i said i never got preg cuz my tubes are blocked! and hes like o well that maybe a reason, right thena nd there i said, ok this ios not gona work... My clinic is big after i speak to the director who coincidentally does not accept my insurance but his facility does( crazy right?), i will move to anotehr doc in the facility.....This is such a long road, itreally really is...

Mbre,
My suggestion is having your transfer with anastesia. That way you will be relaxed, your uterus will relaxed and hopefully it will make a difference and your embie(s) will stick around!!!!

Vlada,
I was schedule for a transfer under anestesia and a dialted cervix, but got a call my eggs didnt make it to blast.......... But get this I got a call today at 242pm and it was my doc and he said " i have good news you have a blast"and im like didt you tell me that i will never make healthy eggs"? Long story short i had the transfer today not under anestesia it was very uncomfy but nothng nearly as bad as my oeth two attempts. This one lasted 10 min! however next time( if there is a next, hopefully im bfp) that i will be under anesthesia.

I hope my blast proves this dcotor wrong! and get this he grade my blast a grade a/b of being healthy looking!. I am so confused...

Hello Mbre,
I see it was a last minute thing and i really hope that it will work for you!!!!
Also, can't your clinic do 3 day transfer or they just want blasts?
The reason I am saying this is because i had 3 day trasfer under anasthesia and now i am over 27 weeks pregnant and my embryos were not very good quality at all. In fact in my fresh cycle most of them arrested and the two that got trasfered didn't take, I got pregnant with FET.
Good luck!!!!!

Hi Ladies,

Went to see doctor for follow up after failed IVF attempt in Nov 07 (IVF #1).

We had 8 eggs of which 7 were good quality and all 7 fertilised.
My DH’s motility etc had been poor in the past but on this occasion was much better.
All 7 eggs fertilised and they were pleased with them on day 1. However on day 2 when we went for ET they had all started to disintegrate and had multi nuclei.

The doc said this was really disappointing and had no answers as to why this had happened. 3 other couples were treated on the same day and did not have the same problem so the lab conditions were ok.

They have suggested we have one more try and if the same happens again they said we should stop treatment as trying naturally would give us the same chances. I have had 2 miscarriages at 5 and 7 weeks (with DH) and so have obviously got further than this before.

Any ideas/stories from Ghost and anyone else? I am feeling bewildered and a bit lost…

Thanks ladies…

MM
