BFP after 8 years TTC - have questions

Post by goosemis »

I can't believe I actually have a question to post on this board! After 8+ years TTC, DH and I are finally pregnant! We just found out yesterday so we are cautiously optimistic. I have spent so much time researching HOW to get pregnant but have no clue what to do next now that it's happened. I hope you ladies can help me with these questions:

How often does your RE check betas? Mine is a week apart.

Is there such as thing as too high of a beta? My first is 2864, we transferred one 8 cell embryo and one hatching blastocyst.

If you did IVF, how do you count how many weeks you are - from the LMP or ER or ET?

oh my gosh - I don't even have an OB/GYN. What should we know/ask when we set up an appointment?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Goose
Congratulations on your BFP!
Enjoy your pregnancy!

Most RE's are different, but I will try to answer your questions....

the beta check, mine was a week apart also, and my RE only did 2 -- I guess the numbers were good enough. Then after my 6w ultrasound when we saw a heartbeat, he released me to the OB.

Not sure about too high of beta, but that number is extreme! wow! I have never heard of a beta being too high.

I think, at the time of your PG test, you are 4 weeks pregnant.

Your RE should give you some paperwork to give to your OB, they could probably even recommend one for you since you don't have one. Ask!
It also helps to bring a list of questions to your OB appt. so you don't forget anything. Also bring DH, because I asked questions, but I was so nervous, the answers went in one ear and out the other! DH remembered everything!

Good luck to you and RELAX!

Hi Goose, firstly congratulations. regarding Beta numbers my clinic do not retest as long as the number is over 50, we just get a scan date for 6 weeks. Regarding your number its nice and strong, also your clinic left you test quite late it was 20 days post retrieval and most test 14 days post retrieval. My beta at 15 days past ER was 569, and they double every 48 hours approx. You can do a calculation from the calculator on the main page of this site, also try betabase.com (i think for beta numbers)

Again congratulations
