IVF Injections

Post by june2 »

Hello,

I am a first time IVFer and I start Lupron on Monday. I am extremely nervous about the idea of injections. All my life I have had a fear of needles and so I was hoping to get some words of wisdom on how to lessen the anxiety associated with this. Any tips or advice?

Thanks in advance!

I was nervous too. But the Lupron needles are tiny. You're nervous because you're thinking of when you gave blood or bigger needles. The only needle that bummed me out was the one that had to go into the muscle to trigger ovulation just before egg retrieval. Cross that bridge when you get there. Just take it day by day.

Thanks for your response! I am trying not to build it up in my head so much and I just keep trying to tell myself that I can do it if I want a baby bad enough!

The first couple of times will be stressful, but you will be a pro before you know it!! I PROMISE. Just take deep breaths stick it in and you will be surprised how painless it is.

Mia.. I just started my shots on Saturday and I was freaking out myself till I realized it didn't hurt. Here's the tips I used that made it to where i literally didn't feel anything

I let the refrigerated meds sit at room temp for about 20 mins of so. Then I also realized that the outter thigh for me was less tender than my tummy. I guess I have more fat on my thighs than my tummy.

You truly don't feel it. It's nothing like when they take your blood. The thing that bothered me wasn't the pain.. it was sticking myself. So i learned that if I go with one gentle motion in.. and not that stabbing motion.. I was totally fine with it.

*HUGS* I promise after the first 2.. you will be great!

Don't worry....Lupron doesn't hurt AT ALL! I was scared to death the first time. Just take a deep breath, don't hesitate and it will be over before you know it. After the first one you'll be just fine.

I was an absolute needle phobic!!! The thought of me doing injections was just horrid........however, i really believe mind over matter

first of all your not injecting a vein...just some fatty tissue ( i am thin so I squeezed my skin together and injected into there)

also, ice the crap out of the site you will inject.......it numbs it

i had to do microdose lupron am and pm - gonal f, and menopor so i did 4 injections a day.......and it turned out being easy

i think that it is "normal" to be overwhelmed and scared take it dose by dose -

dont let your mind go to crazy places

and the good news is i am 12w preg and it was worth every shot....my best to you!!!!
