woodcliff--sign me up...I'll go to italy with ya! :D dh can watch my babies! ha ha! We also go to Lake Erie several times in the summer. We managed it with newborns a couple times last summer--they were about 8 weeks or so. It was hard, for sure, but the family loved to see them.

I did develop pre-eclampsia at 36 weeks 5days. My BP had been GREAT the whole pregnancy and then all of a sudden--BAM! I started to swell a lot at the end too...I usually have tiny ankles, and they were huge by that point! Just take it easy, that's all you can really do. And watch your salt and drink lots of water, of course.

How nice that a twin mommy is willing to come by! Yeah, I'd put the lamps away--FOR A WHILE!!! say, 10 yearrs? :D :D

I also developed pre-eclampsia. My bp was fine until about 32 weeks and then it started to creep up. I was so swollen you could push your thumb into my foot and it left a one inch indentation! I was seeing my regular OB on Mondays and my perinatologist on Thursdays to having my bp monitored and to check for protein in my urine. If my water hadn't broken at 35 weeks, they were going to hospitalize me.

I ended up on magnesium sulfate after delivery because my bp shot up to 170/110 about 4 hrs after my c-section. It took almost a month after I delivered before all the swelling went away. I also had to take blood pressure medicine for 6 weeks after delivery until my bp returned to normal. But it was worth all that to have my beautiful baby boys with me!!!

Laura--I got to see the video--he's crawling so well! I wish we lived closer so Jeremy and Ellie could race, while Braeden and Nicholas just "chilled out"!

Woodcliff--don't tempt me....my passport is in good order, I think? I wouldn't worry about "pushing up" your date. If it's meant to happen early, it will. As long as your doc has a plan for you, then you'll be fine. :)

Hey Woodcliff!

There is sooooooo much to discuss but to try keep it brief I still vote for Nanny. Like I said, I LOVED my Au pair friends but so many were here to experience America and all the clubs and bars it had to offer. So many I knew were fired and sent packing although they were sweet gals. A nanny from a good agency will be exactly what YOU want her to be. A good nanny will follow your guidelines and really try to meet your needs. Also, many nannies get bored alone all day and a lot actually enjoy the company of mom around. I LOVED it when I could not have to dicipline all the time and just relax and play with the kids.

Twins are also a factor here. A single nanny is probably going to be releaved that you are home as the children are so demanding as infants. Even though there will be two of you there sure won't be a shortage of things to do. I say to send her to the grocery store, diaper runs, have her do some laundry, change cribs, organize and clean the rooms, put the photos in albums, take them on walks, play with and be your extra set of hands while out. There is no task that she should not be willing to do if she is wanting top dollar.

My situation was different and there aren't many nannies that worked the system like I did but I LOVED my job and the children I worked with. Needless to say they were ALL in my wedding and we are like family.

This can be a wonderful experience or a horrid one. Be picky, don't settle, make sure you get a trial time with the nanny/au pair you chose and do NOT be afraid tomake her work. Many will think it's a cake walk and they will walk all over you if you let them. My bosses were great listeners, cool tempered, educated, and treated me like family but also kept me on my toes which I appreciated. Working makes the day pass quicker and the job more exciting.

One word of advice, Always, always, try to be on time for your nanny. REspecting her job hours lets her know that you are aware that she needs a break and that her time is as valuable as yours. There will be many times when you both will be late but it's being concerned about it that matters. I use to HATE it when I felt taken advantage of. I never lived in but it's the #1 complaint. A live in never feels like she is OFF the clock.

Give me a call. I am pretty OK with internet info other than credit cards and S.S #'s. :?

Some sad news here. . .we are headed to a 26 week gestational babies funeral tomorrow.   I'm not at liberty to really discuss it, mainly because this is public, but my heart aches for this young woman. The baby was still born and the whole thing just makes me hug my babies a little tighter! Life is such a mystery. Keep her in your prayers please.

Kim~ Ellie is ADORABLE crawling!!!! I finally got to see it!!!! Braeden is quite the skydiver as well! LOVE it!!!!! ENCORE!!!!!!! ENCORE!!!!!!!

We visited the Pediatrician yesterday because the constipation just keeps lingering around and guess what. . . .milk allergy!!!!! When does it end??? We switched his ONE bottle a day last night to Soy and already we are having blow out after blow out! YEAH!!!! Who would have thought that one bottle could do so much stopping a boy up?

Better run! The little ones are taking a GREAT nap and I am beside myself with free time! WHOOHOHOOOO!!!!

Take care~

Woodcliff- I didn't have a nanny but my mother did move in with us for the first 3 1/2 months after the babies were born. Even with both us doing nothing all day but taking care of the babies, we were exhausted.

Feeding the babies every 3 hrs around the clock kept us from getting much sleep, even though we each did 2 feedings alone, so the other one could sleep for 6 hrs. It really is a 2 person job for the first few months, so I don't think a nanny will mind having you there!

After the first 3 months or so, I found I didn't need that much help. The boys were sleeping thru the night and I had a routine that got us thru the days without much difficulty. Unless you have a lot of commitments outside the home, you may find you need less help as your babies get older. You could always reassess your needs at that point.

If money were no option, all I would really love to have is a maid service to clean my house and to put the boys in Mother's Day Out one day a week. That would give me time to do things like get my haircut, go shopping and have lunch with a friend. And it would be nice to live in a sparkling clean house instead of a sort of clean house!

I managed to install the convertible car seats after an hour of stress and sweat. The tether strap was so hard to figure out! I finally decided on the Britax Marathon. They are big, especially rear facing, but should last them for years as they go up to 65 lbs.

The boys are much happier in them. It is actually easier to get them in and out than the infant seats. I do miss the snap-n-go though.

I wish I know someone having twins, as I now have so much baby stuff to get rid of: swings, bouncies seats, play gym, infant seat cars, snap-n-go, etc.

Laura--I know what you mean about the seats! The snap-n-go was nice, but it is much easier to get the babies in/out of the car now. I never realized your mom lived with you for 3 1/2 months! OMG--my mom and I would have killed each 0ther! As for all your extra "equipment", do you have a local twins club? I'm selling my stuff at my clubs' sale this spring. If not, you could do craigs list. Good luck!

woodcliff--you are very lucky to be able to get a nanny/aupair! I was going to echo what Laura said. Early on, you'll probably want help. It's pretty hectic when they're newborns. But, after they start sleeping through the night (which for us was around 11 wks), things get MUCH easier. Are you going to be working at all? If so, then help is needed of course, but if you're not, then I think Laura's right. You might just want occasional help. I would LOVE to have some time once or twice a week to go run errands or do lunch with friends. AS the babies get older and more mobile, I find it's harder to take them out...that's just me. Good luck with whatever you decide! I think things usually work out for the best no matter what you do...

as for the privacy issue...I agree...I usually private message people with more personal info. As for the IVF thing, I'm not embarassed if people know. I guess the more open I am with people about it, the less of a stigma there is about it. :)

kimberly--so sorry to hear about your friend. My friend had a similar situation happen to her last year. Her daughter had a weird birth defect and delivered pre-term (stillborn) around that same time. There is a good ending though...she just delivered a healthy baby boy in January! :) Please pass that good news on to your friend when her heart's in the right place. She'll probably need some hope.

I'm glad you liked Ellie's video...she's getting so good at crawling, and she even pulled herself up today! Sorry to hear about the milk allergy. At least the doc figured it out though...

Good night Mommies!

You are probably wondering why I am writing you a message when Ishould be in the mountains??? Well, it has been the most everything go wrong day in history!!!!! First, the people we were going with were 2 hours late and I am a stickler for being on time! My children were a mess by the time I finally left. Then my firends sweet 8 year old son rode with me but talked the ENTIRE way and kept my over tired babies awake even longer! It wasn't his fault, he is a sweet boy and I adore him but needless to say by the time we arrived my babies were a train wreck in progress! Annelise continues to cry for almost 2 hours straight and Bodie is so worked up he won't even try a nap. Their new puppy rips my favorite shirt sleeve, the roof of the garage w/ 6' of snow avalanches onto my new Tahoe, I lose my cell phone, and everytime I try to put the babies to sleep I find her dear sweet 6 year old in holding my babies. He could not tear himself away from them. He said to his dad "Maybe I won't be agood Daddy one day because I can't make Kimberly's babies stop crying?"     How sad!!!!!! Then I decided to just go home and almost got in a head on car wreck! What the?? Dh wanted to go to our property and I thought I would head north on my own. . .. . . WIll NOT be doing that anytime soon again!!!!
Now I have had 3 glasses of wine and #4 isn't out of question!!!!!!

All in all the funny part is that when we got home the babies were perfect!!!! They ate, smiled at me, loved on me, and went to bed right away. they were perfect!!! Go figure!

For some reason, we were not meant to be in McCall this weekend. I guess we will just accept it and sleep tight!

Much love and hugs to all!

Hi. I wanted to see if you would mind if I joined your group? DH and I just found out on Saturday that we are expecting twins. I am just 6 weeks and 1 day pregnant through IVF. We are very overwhelmed at this point trying to figure out how to afford daycare for 3. We have a DD who is 3 and were very excited about having a second baby. Now that the news of twins has been given to us DH and I are both very shell shocked at the moment.

Kimberly--so sorry to hear about your trip.....sounds like you made a good decision. How was the wine?

Nicole--Welcome and congrats! What exciting news for you.....it is overwhelming at first, but it's a joy to have twins. We're here for you, and don't stress about daycare yet. You have some time. :)

Kim,

Thanks for the welcome. How did you get your lilypie ticker to post? I keep trying all of the different codes they give and when I put them in my profile, none of them seem to work.

Kimberly- Wow, what a trip!!! It is so hard to travel with young babies. My boys are so good at home but seem unable to adjust to a new environment.

Nicole- Congratulations!! DH and I were also overwhelmed when we found out we were having twins. Now I can't imagine not having both of my boys. They are such a joy!
