Husband Question - 7 day Post 3d Transfer

Post by HusbandJim »

I am new here. My wife just completed her 2nd IVF Transfer. 1st did not work with 3 embryo transfer on day 3. She is age 40. I am 47. No health issues, we got married later in life :)
Retrieved 8 eggs 2/10, were told the 4 became embryos. Doctor/clinic decided on the 3 day transfer again. When we got to the clinic we were informed that there were actually 6 embryos now. 2 fertilized later.
Decision with Doctor to transfer 4 eggs. 3 were grade "A" and 1 was a "B"
The two remaining embryos were the late bloomers and they were going to remain until day 5 and if they matured, they would be frozen.
So far everything is good. Dear wife went for her second blood test today for the progest. level. Currently I give her 1cc shot every morning.
The only thing to report is she does have some cramping and feels tired alot but that can be from the medicine. No spotting or anything.
The good news is the clinic just called and of the two remaining eggs one lived to day 5. They weren't even the good one's, one made it to day 5 and was frozen.
The clinic is very very happy with the progress so far!!!
The two week wait is killing us!!! Do we wait? Home test?
Any feedback? Anyone else do a 3 day transfer of the best embryos and the some of the remaining make it to the "blast" stage and get frozen.
Thanks

Hi Jim, I don't have much feedback to give you but I wanted to welcome you and wish you a world of happiness to you and your wife. You deserve to be parents and I can tell that you'll be great ones.

The 2ww is awful but stress is not good for anybody, try to do things that will keep you both distracted and laughing...rent funny movies, go watch a fun show, look at old pictures. And, in my opinion, no home pregnancy test, those things can be evil sometimes

Tell your wife that she is PUPO = pregnant until proven other wise.

Hi Jim,

This is such a tough time. You sound like a great husband. Good on you for posting.

My husband and I have been through this a few times.

Every cycle was fairly similar leading up to betas. I did have some mild cramping each time. I would be reluctant to read to much into how she feels. I always tried to stay positive, my DH would rub my tummy, up until about 11 days after retrieval when I would be convinced the cycle had failed (including this one). But we also talked about how we would feel if the cycle did not work, what we would do next.

In relation to the Home Preg test. I always tested prior to the beta. Usually 13 days past the retrieval. I found that it was the one thing that I had control over in a process in which we have very little control. I wanted to be prepared for the nurses call in advance. Of course a -ve HPT does not necessarily mean a -ve BETA (& vice versa). Everyone is different, follow your instinct.

Best of luck. I hope this first cycle is BFP.

No harm in doing the test, but like Samara said, keep in mind they are often wrong. In particular, there will probably not be enough hCG until, like Samara said, about 13 days after retrieval, and even then it's iffy with an HPT. The lab test is much more sensitive and reliable.

Keep in mind these HPTs were invented to detect pregnancies that are a little farther along than yours.

In my humble opinion, I would stay away from HPT as tempting as it is. If you get a positive, you will wonder if the line is too faint, or if it was the trigger shot. If it is negative, well, it could still turn into a positive. I knew I would question whatever result I got. So it was much better to get the beta result and know for sure what the number is and if it is rising. We transfered 4 embies, 3 excellent (1-10 cell, 2-8cell) and one good one (5 cell) and we saw one heartbeat yesterday! We did ICSI. Being tired, moody and crampy is normal. Good luck!

Update
Wifey throw up after breakfast.
And she noticed todays just a few brown spots after urinating.
But nothing later in the day.
What do you think?
What's up with the brown spots?

Samara....thanks!

husbandJim.....hard to tell about the spotting. By my calculations your wife hasn't reached the point of getting her beta checked, am I right? Bleeding in early pregnancy is by far the most common complication. Still doesn't make it any easier. I can't offer any words of wisdom, just try to wait it out and see if she gets a BFP. I sure hope so. Good luck! Please let us know how it turns out.

I am very happy for you! getting a postive is the first step to this whole journey. But to be caustiously optimistic as you have to not olnly wait for beta test to double, you need to see a heartbeat!
Hubby Jim you are a great husband...I am 6 weeks and i have my first u/s on friday! If you think the 2ww is hard wait until you have to wait until your first ultrasound! im sure we will hear from you again! yore going to be a great dad ;)
