I'm going to stick my oar in here now!

As you will see from the other postings, there is so much to IVF and nothing is clear cut. There never comes a day for people I dont think, where they wake up and say "right, time to move on, let's get a cat instead". Its something that people learn to cope with because they have to but they never really accept, and why the hell should they? From personal experience (and admittedly I am one of the fortunate ones who is now expecting) when our first ivf failed, it was a miracle that I managed to get out of bed in the morning. I don't think I have ever felt so sad and lonely and sorry for my husband that he was having to go through this too. God only knows what its like for the couples who, for whatever reason, cannot continue to have treatment.

Why is one person more worthy than another of bringing a so wanted child into this world? I really feel, like the others, that this subject is handled so insensitively at every level. Whilst I have read articles about IVF and the process etc, and success stories and miracle babies, I would dearly love to see a magazine do an article which is accurate and sensitive and real. Every person's experience is different, the ultimate aim is always the same. I actually feel that the people who would benefit most aren't those about to embark on this process, but those surrounding them and the media, who make light of it. It would make the whole thing easier to bear if we didn't feel so frustrated at the way people who know what we're going through treat us. I don't know if you have children of your own or would like them, but this is something you wouldn't wish your worst enemy to go through. Most of us have heard all the usual cr*p from so-called friends and well-meaning family about life going on and it not being the end of the world. Well, it is, or certainly feels like it.

I think your starting point, if you're going to do a really constructive article should actually be to sit and read through EVERY single posting on these boards. It will give you at least a little bit of an insight into how we have all at some point felt - lonely, isolated, angry, bitter, sad, elated, loss (because when IVF fails, it is a bereavement - our precious embryos didn't survive their journey). And for some poor girls on here, they lost their beautiful babies so far down the line.

Hope I haven't offended or upset anyone but we all have high (and sometimes very differing) emotions about this subject don't we.

With love to you all.

Rachel
x
