Mostly accurate.
We routinely detect hCG on 5dpt. In fact, on that day we can fairly reliably distinguish singles from multiples (not that we tell the patients until the ultrasound). So it generally does not begin the following day, although in occasional late cases, it can. Those late ones usually are lost before the tenth week, though.

How do you detect singles vs. multiples..is the hcg number?
Thanks,

On day 5pt, if the hCG is <20 it's usually a single. If it's >30 it's nearly always a multiple. We tend to get a lot in the 10-20 range, then another cluster in the 40-60 range. Those usually define singles and twins (or rarely, triples).
Those who are not positive on day 5 might become positive later, but often lose the pregnancy, even if good rapidly rising hCG values are seen on day 10 and even if a sac is seen in week 5. That's especially true for fresh non-donor cycles. In FET cycles, a late rise is more common and apparently more viable.
Ghost- my clinic does not test at 5dpt. I got a beta at 10 dp3dt, 12, 14 and 16 (67/127/304/627) and they all doubled, it was a fresh cycle. Does it mean the sac could still be empty? Sorry, got a little nervous reading the last post Thanks!

Few clinics test on day 5. Most test around 10-14 days after transfer.
While anembryonic gestation ("empty sac") cannot be ruled out from early hCG values alone, they are a minority of pregnancies.

More picky details like that...
Ghost-
I had my ET (day5 transfer) 6 days ago and go in for a pregnancy test at the doctor on tuesday 2/12. I did a HPT today and at first it looked negative but then later on i saw a very very faint line. so i dont know what to think. is it too early to anything at day6 (after a day5 transfer) on a HPT? I took a test called Answer, it's supposed to be very sensitive.

I had a 3 day transfer of 3 embryo's on the 4th of June....my question is for the 3dt list, since my embryo's were a bit 'slower' will they still pretty much go on that schedule? I had a 6 cell, 5 cell and ? cell put back....and the embryologist didn't go in to great detail about their quality (they actually all look like 3 cell to me...but I'm sure I'm not seeing it the way an embryologist does. Anyhow, will mine still be blast by today? I only had 5 embryos that fertilized out of 7....stimmed for 12 days, and today they'll phone me about my leftover 2. If they made it to blast, and they were the 'weaker' ones, I'm praying that the ones put back in did as well.
