We had only started our first ivf when next thing we knew-we were being cancelled. I am shocked and feel very blindsided and would love to know your opinion on the situation. I am not asking for you to knock my RE here but just to tell me what you think.
Having both tubes removed is what led us to ivf and we have waited 6 months to get started bc my clinic is only one doctor. There were 42 people cycling at the same time as me!! All in one month!! Anyway, I am 27 years old and so far very healthy and our only IF problem seemed to be my tubes.
SO, went in for CD3 labs and US and everything was "perfect"!! Started on low dose of BCPs and 20 something days later-went in on Lupron start day 9 (Feb 7th). They found a very large cyst on left ovary (28x24)! Started the Lupron anyway. He wanted to see me 3 days later (Feb 10th) and if cyst was still there, he was going to drain it. Went back and cyst was 15x15 (much better). Continued on the Lupron and was told to come back 4 days later planning to start Follistim. Went in that day (Feb 14th) and cyst was still there and was 24x21!!! Uggh! He delayed Follistim and said to stay on Lupron longer but he doubled the dosage to 20u. Went back 3 days later (Feb 17th) and the cyst was down to 13x13. We thought that was great and were told to return in a couple of hours to get bloodwork results........ WE WERE CANCELLED!!! RE said my estrogen was 262!!! I am so confused and so frustrated!! How did it get to this point? I am feeling like maybe something should have been done about the cyst sooner and they let it get way too far!! Why didnt he just drain it and move on? I am devestated and very upset!!
Can you shed some light on this for me and maybe let me know what you would have done? DH and I are seriously considering going to a different clinic where maybe there are not 40 other couples being handled at the same time!! Thanks for your input in advance!!
I am not a doc, but just got a bfp on my 3rd attempt......but i can shed some light.....
Ok cyst produce estrogen which is why your levels where high..Were youe ver on clomid? this causes cyst as well. Yes your doc should have drained it after he saw it wasnt going away. But every re have different opinions... You can check out some of my other post to give you an idea on my story, I too am 27. But also what i can tell you is that it probably wasnt a bad idea to cancel your cycle, heres my reason. Being on lupron for so long can desencitize the ovaries..... and that happed to me trying to get rid of a cyst that was a size 6mm, not as bad as yours but still couldnt countinue with it. I was on lupon for 21 days, 14 in y opion is long enough....anyway the 21 days suppressed my ovaries and didnt get a high amount off eggs, did ivf again without less lupron and got 3x as much.. Everyone women is different. Hope I was able to help, Im sure you will get more good advice from here. It doesnt hurt to call anotehr another faciltiy and get a 2nd opinion... Best Wishes
You want to recruit a large and uniform cohort of follicles. That won't happen if your estradiol is too high at the start. They can often bring it down, but if they can't, then they have to cancel. It's not that unusual. My clinic usually uses a drug (Aygestin) to get the cysts and E2 levels under control. But we still have to cancel now and then.
The good news is that the next attempt usually goes better.
Just for a little update.... My cycle was cancelled on Sunday right? Well on Tuesday I had a light-medium "flow" but was unsure as to whether or not this was my period. I called on Wed and went in Thurs morning for bw and us..... Got the call around noon that my e2 had fallen to below 20 and my progesterone was back down to 1.3!!!! Wow all that in 3 days!! Anyway RE restarted my cycle and we started that same night with stims. I am now on day 4 and have my 1st follie check tom morning. He also switched me from Lueprolide to Ganirelix which I should restart maybe tom night.
Ghost--should I expect any residual problems from the cancellation or should everything be like new??
