Need Beta Advice

Post by tweetness »

Hi!

Here's my beta history in recent days:

Shoot it to me straight . . .

My first beta - 26 - (13 dpo)
2 days later - 106 - (15 dpo)
Doubling time of 23.7 hours

7 days later - 571 (22 dpo)
Doubling time of 69.2 hours

My doctor has told me to stop all medications. He would have expected the number to be at least 1,000 by now. He thinks that it is an abnormal pregnancy. I'll do another beta on Monday to see what the numbers do without the medications. What do you guys think?

I post regularly on another board but this one seems to get a lot more hits so I thought I'd ask here. Others think that I should request one more beta before stopping my meds.
Me - 30
DH - 33
DS - will be 4 in March 2008
M/C - January 2007
male-factor infertility

Get another beta before stopping meds...get a second opinion. The meds keep you from miscarrying.

I'd get another beta before stopping meds. You have nothing to lose by continuing the meds and a lot to lose, potentially, if you stop.
Good luck!

tammys right! infact all the ladies are! I think docs get causght up in statistics and prior experience which is all well but when it comes to something like this something us women( and many dh's) put their heart and $ in, "PLEASE DO NOT JUDGE US AS A STATITIC Even if he thinks this maybe an abnormal embryo let him give it a shot. I mean things can change and they may go up extremly high and catch up! the fact that he is not giving you a chance is unbeknownst to me. I can see him saying that your betas are relatively low for what he considers a normal pregnancy but to continue your meds and well give it a shot. Screw him, take the meds and have another beta. infact have 2!

My re told me i would never have any kids w/ my own aeggs! im 27! he said my eggs are crappy and i need donor eggs! I am 7 weeks preggo! screw your doc and take the chance or your embie and if it doesnt work out then you start over.. U know how many post i read where ladies said their doc said they needed a d&c and then next week at a u/s baby was fine!

I am so sorry im pissed, i just dont get why docs have to be so statistical instead of just being hopeful! Thats all we ivf members want is a ray of hope that right there alone is just enuf

Best wishes and please keep us posted

Many viable pregnancies do not achieve the doubling rule. I've seen declining hCG titers (not just failing to double, but actually declining) and the patient went on to a normal delivery.

I'd get a second opinion, or challenge that one.
