Just curious to see what everyone is feeding their little babes, when they started what, and if everyone does vitamins or not???
My twins are almost 6 months and we just started rice cereal and then prunes (because they need it BAD! ) and sweet potatoes. I feel like a horrid mom because it just dawned on me recently that I haven't been giving the babies vitamins at all!!!!! Is everyone else????
My twins are still breast feeding w/ one bottle of formula before bed but it's still only 4-6 oz. Id' give them more but they rarely drink all of that. Just curious to know what everyone is doing.
you can see how it's going for us on photobucket!

My boys are 4 and a half months and I am thinking they are little piggy's now.
For breakfast they have 3 tablespoons of oatmeal cerial because the rice sometimes makes babies constipated and a half of contaner of the baby stage one fruit (banana's, apples, pears or peaches) with a 6 oz bottle of formula
4-5 hours later they have a six oz bottle with a contaner each of a veggie (sweet potatos, squash, greenbeans, peas, carrots)
4-5 hours later they hae a six oz bottle and the cerial and fruit for supper.
5-6 hours later another 6 oz bottle and they may wake up once @ around 3-4 am for a bottle.
As for vitamins my pediatrician has not mentioned that they should be on any so they are not.
kholton, just stumbled across this post and thought it was funny I was reading a BF book that I bought last night and it hit on the topic of vitamins. Basically said that if you are eating healthy and you carry those habits through to the kids there is no need for supplements. Also if you are still BFing then you may want to stay on you prenatal vitamins during that time it will also help. Not sure what your situation is but sounds like they are not a big push for infants.

This is so interesting! Now I wonder if my children are starving???? They never finish everything and they will barely b-feed, if at all, after eating cereal with prunes or sweet potatoes. We have only been doing solids for about 10 days now so we are getting ready to introduce more stuff soon.
Also, my babies share only 1 tbspn. of cereal and one jar of food at a time. They have only finished it all once???? We do this twice a day right now because they b-feed for the longest in the morning so I add solids at lunch and dinner. Doesn't seem like much after readying what your littles one eat. Makes me curious! My babies are still about 13 and 14 lbs as well.
Can't wait to hear more responses! Thanks for commenting!

My 7 mo. old takes something like this:
8:00 AM bfeed, oatmeal cereal
12:00 noon: 2 oz. formula, 1-2 oz solids like peas and brown rice
3:00 PM Apple sauce or some other fruit, bfeed or 2 oz of formula
6:00 PM dinner and 2 oz of bmilk or formula
I give him no more than 4 oz of formula everyday.
Then he bfeeds 9:00 PM, 2:00 AM, 5:00 AM something like that.
I have no idea what his total intake of milk is...
I really don't think babies need vitamins--especially since you are breast feeding. They should get all they need from that. Introducing solids is fun, isn't it? So far, we just feed our 5 1/2 month old solids once a day--usually rice cereal and sweet potatoes or bananas or avacado in the evening. She breast feeds otherwise on no real schedule, just every 2-3 hours or when she seems hungry. She loves food, though!
My son's pediatrician gave him vitamin D with iron. He has been taking trivisol from the beginning. He was anemic when he was born and also, in Minnesota, it is normal for babies to get vit D due to the cold weather. They don't get out enough so, it is important that they get the supplement.
I followed the Gina Ford routine and introduced solids at 6 months - this is how it panned out (approximately) for us:
6.45 BF
8.00 Baby porridge
10.45 BF
12.00 veg puree and baby rice
14.30 BF
17.00 Fruit puree and baby rice
18.15 BF
19.00 bed til next morning
I always made the purees in advance and put them in the freezer in ice cube trays. The 10.45 BF was replaced at 9 months with a fruit/biscuit snack and the 14.30 BF replaced at 12 months with a fruit/biscuit snack. The 6.45 and 18.15 BF were replaced by cows milk at 14 months and dispensed with a milk drink totally at 18 months. This now leaves me with 3 well balanced meals and 2 snacks each day and works really well.
I must stress that this routine fitted in really well with our life style and DD eats enough cheese, yogurts, fromage frais etc to compensate for lack of milk drink. It's worth getting as much feedback not only from this site but other friends to find something that suits you and your baby.
My health visitor advised that only babies with allergies or a food intolerance should be vitamin supplements.
Good luck

Thanks everyone for the info! My little man recently started refusing his bottle so now he doesn't get that one bottle of formula a day. It really helped him sleep longer so it seems I can't win with him. They have moved up to cereal and veg or fruit 2 x's a day and when it's a long day I throw in one more feeding but they are all pretty small servings still.
Hopefully the begin to enjoy it more soon because right now they seem to just get it over with. annelise is a bit more thrilled with it than Bodie but neither one is excited to see it coming. We still bfeed all day as well.
IT's so great to hear what others are doing! Thanks again!
