How many ultrasounds - carrying twins?

Post by goosemis »

I have a question for those who have been pg before with twins. How many ultrasounds did you have? Did you get one at each OB visit?

DH and I finally told immediate family today that we are pg. When I spoke with my SIS she told me that you only get 2 u/s. She said they did one to confirm the pg and another when she found out the gender. DH and I were hoping to get an u/s with each OB visit (due to the extra worry that comes with IVF of course).

After we confirmed the pg, we had one around 9 weeks, 16 weeks to do the whole measuring and tell the sex, then I had one about every other visit until I went on hospital bedrest. I think in total I had 6-8???

Really, after I could feel them move I had a lot less worry.
Good luck to you!
Kimberly

I had one at 6 weeks, & since then I've had 6 more...
and now will have them every week starting next week until I deliver.
I love my OB...
I also go to my husband's office for ultrasounds when I'm worried (he has a sonographer there who used to specialize in maternity)...
But even without the extras at my hubby's office, my OB has allowed for plenty

2 is not enough for twins...your sis must've had a singleton!
always ask for one ... your OB will let you know if he'll approve it, and find out what your insurance will approve
good luck and congrats!

I'm only 9 weeks pregnant with twins and my OB already told me that they would be doing an u/s at each visit just to keep a good check on the babies growth. Good luck to you!

Hello! Congratulations on the twin pregnancy!!!

So far, I have had an ultrasound @ 6 wks, 8wks, 9wks, and 12 wks....I asked my ob, If I would get them every visit, He told me that the insurance companies are becoming sticklers regarding u/s and do not want to pay for them. However, since I am pregnant with twins, I would be able to get away with having more u/s. For instance at my 12 week visit, he could not get his doppler to work properly and could not find the heartbeats, so we had an u/s. I go in on Monday for my next appointment, I am already trying to think of ways to sabatoge the doppler machine,so we can sneak another peak at the little ones!  It is so amazing how much they change each month! We ivfer's get spoiled with all the extra views of our growing babies!

Anways...good luck and may you have many happy u/s!!
