Anyone doing study with Dr Foulk in Reno

JenJen-I went through ICRM, they just have a branch of them here in Utah. Dr Foulk/Dr Slater switch months and come out to Utah every other month and do IVF cycles. They have an embryologist that is always here in Utah, his name is Dr Richards. They have a lady named Ann Marie who does all the preliminary ultrasounds and if one of the Dr's is in town at the time they will do it. Dr Richards supposedly started out here in Utah by taking on all of U of U's people who couldn't get pregnant by them. He would get a lot of them pregnant. So he is supposed to be great. I unfortunately didn't have luck, but it is a fluke deal with that. They were really surprised. I have found that in Utah, at least at the time that I did my cycle, it was cheaper than in Idaho. But, when you do the second cycle, they offer a discount to do it in Idaho, which ends up being cheaper. The one thing about doing it at Utah, they don't do ICSI. So with male factor, if that is what is needed they don't do it there. Anyway good luck.

Karen-I finally heard back from them yesterday afternoon. They are still waiting on the study people to make sure that they definately accepted me. I am on the list, but they have to make sure. They want me to come in to do what they call "appointment zero". Plus sign some consents, but they will call me and set up the appointement later. She said "are you ok that we push it back one month" I am totally ok with that, I want to do it asap, but I kind of would like another month to try by myself, since I have now gotten pregnant without any medical help. I feel pretty calm about it too!! It is a great experience!!

Hi ladies,

I too am a sucess story of Dr. Foulk's. I have a 11 month old now with sucess on our first try at IVF. He is awsome. I walked into his office and he so calmly stated, don't worry, we will get you pregnant.

Karen, where are you from in wyoming? I am from afton.

Rileydee ~ It is so nice to hear success stories from Dr. Foulks office. gives me hope that I will be a mom here shortly too. I am from Laramie. Afton aigh the famous home of the olympic wrestler who surprisingly got frost bite. I love the history that is in Wyoming. I am a bit home sick especially today with the wind blowing. Ok, I don't miss that. The weather here feels like Wyoming summers and it is spring here allready.

I called Dr. Foulks office yesterday and left a message just to check in on what to expect next. I don't want to be forgotten or forget them either. This is going to happen for me in May and how it goes from there I will let it happen.

So I've been to Boise and back for monitoring and they're going to do the ER on Thursday. There are plenty eggs in there for them to retieve too!! I asked the nurse about the study you guys are involved in and she said the reason they didn't offer it to us is because you can't have had more than one cancled cyle. They are really nice there. Except that girl Jen that answers the phone rubs me the wrong way. Hopefully she's nobodies sister or anything.

JenJen-Yeah lots of good eggs!! Good to know that you were able to ask about the study!!! I say good luck!!!!

As for me I am still waiting to hear if they have officially picked me. I don't get it, they have already picked some of the people, they should know if they are going to pick me!!!! I am just bugged, I feel like they are putting me off and they don't keep me in the loop. Just a serious lack of communication!!!!! Hopefully they will call me soon!

kholt- I hope they contact you soon. If your dealing with the office in Boise, I do know that they're really busy right know. They're in the middle of cycle and you can just feel the stress in the air when you there. But I feel your frustration. It's just nice knowing what to plan for.

Kari ~ Keep on them and bug them. If they want your full price money they will do their best to get you in either way. So if you are bugging for the study. keep on them.

I got a call from Dr. Foulks office (Janna) she is in charge of the study. I am to call on my first day of my next cycle to come in for blood work and start BCP. It doesn't feel real at all yet but such a nice feeling not to be stressing about it either.

I am actually working with some of their people in Utah and they are working with Dr Foulks people in Reno so it really is Reno and the study people who we are waiting on. I just would like better communication is all. I can wait, right now I am good to wait. I just need to know that what is going on and the only way I find out is I call them. But, it is ok because like I said I can wait right now.

Well girls I had my retrieval today and we're definately getting our moneys worth this time. They retrieved 62 eggs!!!! They'll call me tomorow with details on how many were mature. They're guessing between 20 and 30 are mature enough to fertilize. I'm still in shock over that number. Anyway, if they can't get me pregnant with those numbers then I don't know who can. It's a beautiful day today, it's too bad I'm indoors recovering.

JenJen-WOW!!!!!! THAT IS AMAZING!! That is a ton. Do you have OHSS?? Oh they only got 20 from me the first time and I was so bloated and full, even for days after. But they didn't tell me that I had OHSS or anything. But I hear the more they get the more likely it is for you to have OHSS. Drink tons of gatorade and V8 juice, they are high in sodium. That helps the bloaty and full feeling go away. Keep us posted on how many fertilize and how many you put back in etc....

Kari ~ How are you doing?

I have a sinus headache. Writting it down in my study journal so they know the drug doesn't cause the headache later. I have had 4 sinus headaches since signing my consent forms and have not taken even an ounce of Tylenol. Trying not to take any drugs at all if I can help it. BUt it is going to suck for my drive up to Lewiston tihs afternoon. Any non drug remedies??? 5 days and I should start BCP.

Karen-I am excited for you that you will get to start BCP soon!!! That is awesome. It is definately exciting! I am sorry about the sinus headaches I understand them very much!! I also understand trying not to take anything. Keep us posted!

As far as for me I went to my nasal dr yesterday. HOLY COW!! That was way more painful than anything so far I have felt with IVF. I think things in your nose are really sensitive!! I couldn't get numb and he just kept on going even though I was crying because it hurt so bad. I tried really hard to be strong but I am petrified. Especially when I see the kind of instruments they stick up there. The good news is one side is healing great. The bad news is the other side isn't healing as well. It has scar tissue in it and they can't see if it is healing as well. So at this point I have to take a nasal steroid spray to try to reduce swelling up inside. So that could be a problem for the study. I don't know. But I am going to keep doing my thing until they tell me otherwise. Also AF to come which she won't be here until the end of March. So I have some time. Also they still haven't got back to me as far as if I am on the list for sure!! This is so silly. I am sure that they have to know at this point and I probably am not and no one wants to tell me. But they always sound positive like they are mostly sure that I am on there still. So we will just see. I will let you know if I hear anything.

I'm still waiting to hear from the clinic on how many fertilized. We'll probably transfer 3 embies. I actually feel really good considering what I went through yesterday. I had OHSS before on our first cycle and was pretty uncomfortable. That time they took out 42 eggs. But Dr.foulk has had me taking whey protein (30gm/day) which has really seemed to make a difference. Along with drinking gatorade which I did the first time.

Karen- the only non-drug remedy for headaches I'm aware of is caffine. They probably don't want you to drink that either. I hope you feel beter those sinus headaches are the worst. If you do decide to take drugs do Tylenol and sudafed. Short term use should effect much if anything. Or you not suppose to take anything.

kholt- so did you have some kind of nasal surgery? If so how long ago?That sounds miserable. I sure hope they contact you soon!! There is way to much waiting in this process.

I'll let you guys know my #'s when I hear from the office. Hopefully I'll have a ton that fertilized so we have back up in the freezer

So the lab called me and they actually retrieved 66 eggs!! 41 of the 66 were mature and 30 fertilized. I really can't believe these numbers. I'm happy though because we have a lot to work with!! The transfer is Sunday afternoon.

JenJen-Those are amazing numbers!!! I am so excited for you. So did you do 3day or 5day? Oh that is just so awesome. So I guess if it was sunday then today is the day!! Oh I am just way excited!!

Yeah I had nasal surgery last month which made it so they wouldn't even possibly do my IVF in March as originally planned. Because of the meds and the anesthesia for it. I actually had thought that when I did IVF the first time that it was just allergies and maybe then it was. But going as long as I did and not taking anything for it, made it turn into a serious infection. I actually got to the point that I could breath through my nose a little but couldn't taste or smell!! It was terrible. But, I did the surgery and it was supposed to be painful, but it wasn't for me. Until after when I went in to the dr. Oh man was it painful. He also made me stuffed up again. So I am actually wondering if my whole infection made my first IVF not work. So I knew that I need to be totally healed up before I try it again. So hopefully soon he will get me off of the medication that I am on. I know that it won't work with the ivf. So we will see.
