Second placenta?

I have had a tiny bit of very light pink bleeding and my gynaecologist has discovered that I have a satellite placenta (that is what he called it an English, neben Plazenta in German). He hasn't really told me a lot about it, is just monitoring it and says that at the moment it is nothing to be concerned about, it's quite low but not over the cervix. My main placenta is absolutely fine, high enough and completely formed and functional.

My question is has anybody else had a second placenta and did it cause any problems to your pregnancy or birth? Could it have been twins at the beginning?
