1st u/s, no heartbeat. Anyone else?

Post by kerpupples »

We had our first u/s today at 6 1/2 weeks. There's 1 sac and we saw the baby, but no heartbeat. Bad news - most pregnancies have a heartbeat showing at this stage. Good news - the baby is still smaller than the size where a heartbeat is normally seen.

They're calling later with my hormone levels and we're due to go back Monday for another u/s.

Anybody else go through this?

I've also had nausea over the past couple days. Another good sign.

kerpupples I am so sorry that you did not get to see your baby's HB today. I will be praying for you. I truly hope that your baby is just too small to see the HB now. Get some rest this weekend and try not to worry about it. I will be looking for you on Monday to see what your results are. Good luck to you and your DH, and I am praying for better news on Monday.

Thanks Hoekey. I read your post about your MC - what an ordeal for you and DH. I hope you are feeling better now. I'm so sorry.

Rio - I hope that's the case with me too. I do feel better that the baby's still smaller than when they normally see a heartbeat. Hopefully we've just got a slowpoke on our hands.

Aliann - thanks, that's reassuring. I've seen numerous posts on other boards from women like mine so I'm worrying less. The baby is also nestled into a the end of the uterus so the doctor said we could be at a bad angle. Congrats on your soon-to-arrive little one!

kerpupples Please do not take my experience as a bad omen for you. I meant only to lend support and not to scare you. I have seen so many times that women have been in your situation and have gone on to have very healthy babies. So, chin up and take it easy. I am wishing you all the best.

Ugh! I just called the clinic because they hadn't called with my results.

My HCG is at 23000. The nurse said that any HCG level above 10000 with no heartbeat is a bad sign, but that the doctor didn't want to call me because she wouldn't know anything for sure until Monday when I get another u/s.

I'm reading that HCG doesn't mean much starting in the 6th week so I'm confused as to why that would matter.

Hi

Post by gori »

Hi kerpupples, I can tell you from my experience that I had spotting around 6.2 weeks of pregnancy. I was paranoid as I had had a m/c earlier & went for an ultrasound but they did not detect a heartbeat at that stage. It's common not to get a heartbeat until 7 weeks. I got mine around 7 weeks. We are all hoping for the Best for you. Keep us posted!

Amy, wishing the best for you!!! I've heard similar stories on the boards....I've also read of women with very low HCG levels who ended up pregnant, one even with twins...

What a long weekend for you..

Hoekey - thanks, I didn't mean for you to think that was the case. I know everyone is different. And I was still nauseous when I got up this morning!

gori - I've seen a number of other stories like yours too. I haven't had any spotting or any other symptoms of miscarriage. It makes me wonder why my doctor is so pessimistic. I guess maybe it's better to err in that direction.

woodcliff - long weekend indeed! I'm pretty sure we just have 1 but that's plenty. :)

Thanks again everyone.

6w5d u/s today - still no heartbeat. Baby actually measured at 2.5 mm on Friday and is at 2.9 mm today. Way too small.

We're checking again on Friday but I'm not optimistic. We may have to chalk this time up to "at least I can get pregnant."

Thanks for your prayers everyone, they are really appreciated.

Kerpupples- I am so sorry sweetie. Let us know how Friday goes. You are right that it is a great sign that you CAN get pregnant, my RE said that somehow your body remembers and it is easier to get preganant again once you have done it once. My prayers are with you!

riogirl - thanks, that's good to hear. It's been a tough day. I've been trying to work but haven't been very successful. I think I'll give up and take the rest of the day off.
