Avoiding Miscarriage

Post by First Timer »

I'm 32 who is 5 weeks along after first time successful IVF- 2 grade A's- ICSI. First Beta at 12dp3dt was 334. Next one scheduled for Thurday 3/20 along w/ first sono (can't wait!). I've had several close friends who've miscarried before 8 weeks and one at 16 weeks. Since my DH & I have been TTC for 2 years+ and experienced 5 unsuccessful IUI's, I'm petrified of miscarrying. I'm on 1cc of progesterone oil each night and weekly accupuncture (which I'm a firm believer). Is there anything additional I can do to ensure a healthy pregnancy besides good nutrition, lots of sleep, moderate exercise and prenatal vitamin?
I've read a baby aspirin each day can help w/ implantation- any thoughts?

I really appreciate your advice & words of wisdom.
Congrats to all on this forum, such an exciting time for everyone!!!

Warm regards,

Congratulations on your BFP! Unfortunately, every Dr. is different so I can't say do more or less of anything. I was on progesterone 2x's a day and baby asprin until 12 weeks so that was what I did. Who know what part helped or did anything.

I really think the very best thing you can do is stay positive and upbeat. Your mind is a powerful tool and although being healthy is so important physically, emotionally we need to be fit as well. Take time for yourself, relax, enjoy your dh and this special time, limit the worry as much as us IVF'ers can, and just send lots of love to your baby! It's too bad we don't have a magic wand!

Best of luck to you and congrats again!

Hi first timer, I was reading a book and looking online and it seems like the reason for most miscarriages is chromossomal abnormality. So if you are relatively careful, there is nothing you can do to cause a miscarriage of a healthy baby. Relax and enjoy! I know it is hard because you need reassurance every step of the way in this process. Good luck!

Hi Firstimer,
Congrats on your BFP!!!
I completely understand your anxiety. DH & I spent 7 years TTC and multiple IVF/FET attempts before our BFP. My sister had a m/c with her 1st pregnancy and I guess I had it in my mind that maybe 1st pregnancies ended in m/c(silly, I know) so I just wanted to wrap myself in bubble wrap for the first few weeks.
But in reality, there's not a lot you can do one way or the other to either save a pregnancy that's doomed or get rid of an unwanted pregnancy -short of abortion. Think of all the "fertile" women out there who don't even know they are pregnant until week 7 or 8. They've been out there drinking alcohol, caffiene, going out with friends, living their lives, etc, and it doesn't hurt the pregnancy one bit.
After my 8 week ultrasound showed a healthy normal little guy, I really relaxed and started to enjoy my pregnancy. I think the best advice I could give you is to not even wait the 8 weeks, just be happy & think positive and rejoice that you climbed that big infertility mountain and got pregnant.
Take care,
2ndtimer

wow this is so cool! congratulations

Like Koltan said, every doc is different...I was on 2CCs of progesterone, and tons of Vivelle patches, and a baby aspirin a day (they wanted me to stop it at 12 weeks)...lots and LOTS of blood work, as when I was eased of the P shots they needed to ensure that my levels naturally were rising along with the pregnancy (I think if it doesn't that leads to miscarriage?)

I wasn't really concerned about miscarrying, ignorant that I was...but I Slept ALOT and did not work out at the gym...just walked...ate what I wanted, drank coffee...didn't over baby myself, but I do recall being as tired as I am now in the 3rd trimester!!!!

Just enjoy this and think positive...and good luck
