Hello girls. Hoping for some suggestions here. I would like to go for some 2nd and 3rd opinions after my 2nd failed IVF before I go for the 3rd. We have male factor and possible immune issues. please let me know the docs you're going to and what their specialties are. Thanks a bunch
Thank you Sue. I have heard about Cornell, and planning to make a consult with them. The only thing is that they don't take insurance at all not even for the consultations which is $550, but one of the doc does so I will probably consult with him. Still deciding on the right RE. Thank you and good luck to you!
My husband had male factor (low sperm count and motility etc...) he had a TESE procedure with Dr Schlagel- the urologists for male factor at Cornell are top notch as well
We ended up doing IVF, husband did TESE, and we did ISCI
I am now 19w pregnant from first try
Best of luck let me know if you have any other questions
Faina - They actually take one Insurance.. ours. So, we definitely lucked out with that.
Tennisgurl - we consulted w/ Dr. Schlegel too (who doesn't take ANY insurance) and he decided DH didn't need TESE for this cycle... I wonder if that would have made a difference, since our 1st (and only, so far) cycle failed..?
Sue
Me 34, DH 40
Male factor IF
IVF cycle # 1
ER - 3/8
ET - 3/11
TEST - 3/24 - BFN
hmmmm wonder why he thought dh didnt need TESE- my dh had poor motility and it worked like a gem with ISCI of course- it is super expensive but we also have sperm frozen if we decide on another
are you going to consult with him again for the next cycle
I don't know if CT is too far or not, probably a 45-60 minute drive from NYC. I went to Park Ave Fertility in Trumbull, CT. They were fantastic, I loved them from the beginning. Male factor- my dh had TESE done in New Haven, CT. We did ICSI, I am now 18 wks pregnant, first try, so I definitely reccommend this office.

2nd IVF- 04/09 - BFN

4th IVF - Fall 2011??
I was thinking about going to Connecticut or NYC myself. I had looked into both Cornell and UConn, which both seem pretty good. Had I had the money, I probably would have gone to Cornell just because of my age--seems like for my age group they had pretty good success rates.
Ghost also recommended that those were pretty good clinics too.
I just had a phone consultation today with Dr. Davis from Cornell. I had to ship a blood sample to NYC (I'm from RI) prior to the call so they could have my Day 2 info. We talked for about 40 minutes. He didn't have the results yet, so he called me back in the afternoon. It cost $550 to talk to him and to do the bloodwork. We went through my TTC history. He came up with some alternatives that peaked my interest....one was co-culturing. He said that not many clinics can offer this. He said they've seen successes on the order of 40% in cases with repeat IVF failures. I don't exactly fall into that because I've only transferred one embryo each time, and I had 2 biochemical pregnancies and a BFN, but he thought this could help. It would also help select the best embryo because they would be grown to blastocyst...the procedure allows for more risk because it is a better culture (I'm not sure if that is completely true, but that is what he said). I am currently taking BCP with my current clinic in RI, starting my 4th cycle. He thought I should go through that and if it doesn't work out to consider them. He discussed a different protocol. He left me with a good feeling about what it would be like to be a patient of his. He was responsive, to the point, and called me back with my bloodwork results (my clinic uses the nurses for that). He told me that they are on the verge of getting United Healthcare (my insurance)...in months, not years....but for now, I'd have to pay then bill my insurance (as long as they allow out of network doctors)
If someone out there can give me more info on him and Cornell, I'd appreciate it. If it's something you don't want to share on the board, please send me a message.
