Your Experience with Nuchal Test

Hello! I am going for Nuchal on 3/31 and was just wondering what your experiences with the Nuchal test were.

Did you get the results the same day?
Did you do a combined blood test with it?
Did your odds get better or worse after the test was complete?

I just turned 37 and my odds just based on age are supposed to be 1:250 so I am hoping the Nuchal combined with blood and family history wil make my odds much lower. I would like to avoid an amnio. I am praying for a healthy baby!

Hi,
I did mine when I was 38 and it took about 10 days for the results to come. The counselor said that if there is some thing wrong with the blood test, they would've hurried up and given out the results sooner. Mine came out same risk as a 21 yr. old! So, good luck, you will be just fine.

You don't get the authorized test on the same day, but you get to see the U/S and the measurement of the skinfold on the back of the neck....THAT result is immediate.

My results were fine....later had a blood test at around 19 weeks (most have it at 16 but I was out of the country)...again, fine.

Don't worry too much...just be happy to be pregnant!!

I am 38 and had my Nuchal test on 18 March at 12 weeks 1 day. I was told that the nuchal test should be done between 11 and 14 weeks.

The ultrasound was awsome. They did both measurement of the skin on the back of the babies neck and the bloodwork the same day. I received the results of the measurement of skin on the neck the same day. They like it to be under 2cm and mine was 1.1 which was excellent.

It took 10 days for the blood test results. I just got those results back on Friday and they were great also. The blood test for the possibility of my baby having Downs was 1 in 2231 and they do some Trisomony 18 & 13 test which test for other abnormalties and mine came back 1 in 3362. The doc said those results were as good as a 20 year old.

I was nervous about that nuchal test but all came back well.

Good luck on your test. Enjoy the U/S because they use a high tech machine and you see alot. We also received tons of U/S pictures also.
