I am in the process of accessing different IVF clinics and doctors in New York. My husband and I recently visited Sher Institute and found the doctor to be incredibly informed and thorough. My concern was that their treatments seem more experimental than previous clinics I have visited. Has anybody had any experience with Sher Institute and did you have a positive experience.
Thanks so much in advance
I'm sorry i dont have any information on that clinic but i am in NY, i went to Montefiore, Saw Dr Lieman, i loved him he was brilliant also two friends went there too they both have babies now, didnt work for us but i highly recomend him. I had a very positive experience with the Sher Institute in NY. My protocol was managed at their Long Island facility, but the retrieval and transfer was in Manhattan. I did IVF twice with them and got pregnant both times. Sadly the first pregnancy did end in a miscarriage, but my second pregnancy resulted in twins! They are now 7 months old and precious. If you are interested in more details about my experience feel free to pm me, I'd be more than happy to share it with you.
Hi, Ange:
I will go to Vegas to next month to meet Dr. Sher. I am very glad to hear that you had very positive experience with them.
I am doing CGH first, it takes 6 weeks for the result to come back, then I will go back and do the transfer. What do you think? I really don't like the waiting, but if it is very benificial I will..do you have any suggestions?
Also I missed 3 BCP and started spotting, do you think it is a problem, would that have anything to do with my ovulation?
Thanks a Million!
I had looked into them because many people on this site had recommended them. I also posted something on the IVF message boards about asking about good clinics in Northeast--either CT or NY-- I used to live there, but now live in RI and clinics here in RI are limited. Some had good experiences w/ Sher, but others, including Ghost, recommended Cornell or UCONN. In the end, I decided not to go through w/ any more IVF cycles--solely based on the out of pocket expenses--including having to do all the test redone (I've found that a "new" clinic wants to redo all the tests again--even if they were done recently). You see I am lucky to live in a mandated state and the insurance we had was out of Mass--also a mandated state w/ much better laws than in RI (in RI you pay 20% while the insurance pays 80%--in Mass. they will pay for up to 6 basically at 100% w/ exception of the co-pays for a doctor's visit--started at $15 and went up to $20 in July and co-pays for the meds--$10/$25/$40 depending on the drugs. All the testing procedures, etc covered at 100%. So it was quite a shock to me to find out exactly what the cost was.) I did go on line to check out Cornell, and you can request a package which includes a schedule of fees (don't know if this is standard b/c insurance always paid), so from at least the perspective, you get an idea of cost.
One thing Ghost said was the Sher didn't report results to SART, you could only get it off of website. Not saying this is a good thing or not, just interesting....
That's interesting, why don't they report the results to SART? Where do I go to find out he results then? thanks for sharing..
I just gave myself FIRST shot of Lupron (10 units), I feel a bit discomfort in my belly..like bloating..do you guys have the same experience?
Hao
I'm including something Ghost wrote when I asked about clinics. It's in two parts....
From their research, I like the University of Connecticut (Farmington) and Cornell (NY, NY). Connecticut has published some very impressive findings on improving safety and Cornell has an outstanding embryology lab.
kbat, at my clinic in ny they are known for working with womb like yourself. I am 27 but alot of my cycle buddies are older. The clinic is called SIRM. They have 9 clinics all accross the US butni believe the one where I go is cloest to you. You can even call and request a telephone consult for free with the director of the facility who works in both ny and vegas location. His name is Dr. Sher. I am 8 weeks preggo today bcuase of sirm. Best wishes and choose wisley since you are Making this your final go. It took me 3 tries 2 at other clinic in NY now at Sirm I am pregnant. Best wishs k!
SIRM does not report their birth rates to SART, which is unusual. SIRM does post pregnancy rates on their website. They claim a 10% rate of ongoing pregnancy (at 10 weeks) for fresh non-donor cycles in the 41-42 age group. That's the latest numbers they posted, first quarter 2007, and summarizes all of their clinics, combined
Don't know why they don't report.
I am not saying that this isn't a good clinic. It sounds like a lot of people have had success there. Just saying that it's always good to do research first.
Sorry it took so long to respond. I've tried 3x and my post disappears after I submit it. ARRGGH!
I did not have CGH done, it actually wasn't available when I did my IVF. I remember reading about it in their waiting room and they were about to start offering it. I did do PGD testing which was pricey, but so worth it. I had 7 'good' embryos that were transferrable or could be frozen. Of those 7, only 1 was good genetically. That one is my son. So even though the embryo looked good, genetically it wasn't and I probably would've miscarried again. My daughter was a frozen embryo from my first cycle. For the longest time we called them freshy and frosty.
I don't remember feeling crampy when I used the lupron specifically, but when you start to stimulate the ovaries, you definitely feel bloated and almost pre-menstrual. I had a very aggressive protocol because of my age so I was injecting like 5 shots on some days in my belly and butt! All worth it though.
Anyway, hope this was helpful and keep me posted! Also feel free to ask me any questions.
