Hi
How do you choose the best sperm to be injected in the egg during icsi ??Is there any test which can be done prior to fertilization to see if the sperm is free from any defect??if yes, what is the cost involved??
My husband has low count (11 million ) ,motility is ok but there are large number of abnormal looking sperms found in the sample. If so large number of sperms are bad will the the rest of the sperms which are so less in quantity would be of good quality ??

I'm no expert but we did ICSI too and my understanding is they pick the best sperm by visualizing them uder the microscope. They judge by their shape and how they move I think. Good luck.

i asked the EXACT same question.....cuz honestly, if the swimmers aren't up to par on any given day -- what is different about the day you do ICSI????? my RE explained that their lab does what is referred to as a "swim up" --- quite literally what it sounds like......once your dh provides sample, the lab puts in this "spinny-thingy" (careful - i'm getting all technical on ya!!! ) ha, ha..... and i'm not sure what else they "do" -- but apparently only the BEST of them make it to the top.... and from that point they analyze under microscope to pick the very best ones.......
Thanks for the reply . But i am still not sure if 99%of sperms are bad how can i trust the 1% left .But i will keep trying until my bank balance allows me to do so.

Just wanted to say you can trust the 1% because it only takes 1 sperm..
My DH had issues with count, shape, and motility.. hardly any of his were ok!! The doc kept reassuring us it only takes one...The ladies were right and that is how they check to see which ones are better.. There are professionals that sit under a microscope and analyze them.. They will only put back great sperm because the others won't fertilize the egg properly...
There are millions in a normal sample.. say your DH only had 1,000 sperm.. if the doc is saying 99% are bad, there are still 1% or 10 sperm that are great!! and that's all ya need!!
Now with a sample of 1 million.. imagine how many good ones are in there! I think like 10,000 ?? that's A LOT !!
Good Luck!
