Ghost or any others that can help- a HPT Question

Post by sciteacher77 »

Hello,
In my last pregnancy, which sadly ended due to IC at 23 weeks, I began HPT on the evening of day 6 (I transferred 2 5 day blasts and one took) and got a very faint positive. The tests got progressively darker. In our first cycle back, we transferred our one frozen embryo. It was a A/B quality blast. This morning marks day 6 and I tested negative on a FRED test. I am thinking it is probably over for me, but wanted some honest advice. I know that miracles happen and that negative HPT can result in a positive beta, but I want the typical results. So, Ghost, do you think a healthy pregnancy would have appeared by now? I will test again tomorrow, but it is very draining on my DH and me, especially as the due date of the daughter we lost fast approaches. I would love some honest feedback here. Has anyone tested negative at day 6 and gone on to test positive on day 7?
Thanks,
Michelle

I think you tested too early.

If I may ask, what is IC. I am 15 weeks pregnant and feel sorta out of the woods but the more I read, the more I see that you aren't out of the woods until you have that precious little baby in your arms.
Me, 40 - DH, 47
IVF #1: POSITIVE - Michaela born 9/19/08
IVF #2: Consult on 10/13/09 - Start BCP Dec since clinic will be closed for the Holiday.

IC stands for incompetant cervix. Basically, you painlessly dilate without any warning signs. I didn't know anything was wrong until I felt my membranes bulging. It is an awful condition that I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. IC is common in people who have had prior surgeries on their cervix, etc. I had none of the conditions. However, my gut told me something was wrong, but I ignored my instincts. Another girl who was on my pregnant thread lost her twins to IC a month before I did and something told me I had it too. I had been at the doctor 3 days before I wound up in the hospital. Anyways, the danger period for IC is between 16 and 24 weeks. Good luck to you!

Are they going to put a cerclage in this time in case you diolate early again? I am getting one at 12 weeks for precautionary reasons next pregnancy. I hope all works out for you and wish you the best!

Yes, I will be getting a TAC (transabdominal cerclage.) it is more invasive, but has a higher success rate and I can never handle the pain of burying a child again!
I saw you also lost a chile in the second trimester. Good luck to you!

Yes, I know the feeling, losing my twins Nolan & Violet was bad enough..but burying them was just an awful time. I wish you all the best in the worls...this time will hopefully be different for us both!

Tried to reply earlier, but something was wrong with my account...

You are testing early. It worked before, but you can't rely on it this early. If you could, then that's what all the clinics would do. In fact, it's a little surprising you saw a faint positive from a singleton that early. It's not routine.

From what I see, FETs seem to have hCG rise a little later and a little slower, at least at first. This might be due to the embryo needing a bit of time to recover from freeze/thaw before it resumes development. Also, the endometrium seems to be more tolerant of late implantation in FET cycles.

We have these FETs, lots of them, that don't start to rise until day 7 or 8. And that's with a blood test, where we can see subtle rises that you cannot see with an HPT.

One more day might not be enough. You might try 2 or 3.
