Pineapple...again sorry

Post by nicaliw »

I know this subject has been thrashed to death on this board but I don't really know what the general concensus (sp?) is???? It seems most people say that eating pineapple can help with implantation but I've heard so many different things.......

I have heard of eating fresh pineapple, drinking pinapple juice and eating the pineapple core. I have also heard it causes contractions of the uterus so its actually not good.

Anyone have any clear insight on this??????

Funny thing...I just posted this on the preg after tx board...I can say that I did eat fresh pineapple, including the core after my transfer with first IVF and I have a ds...however, I didn't go crazy with it and I only ate it for about a week or two...I also ate brazil nuts because they too have the same ingredient that pineapple does (I can't remember what it's called) that is supposed to help with implantation. I don't really know about whether they also cause contractions- not sure... Maybe ghost will know something about this...I've come to the conclusion that no matter what I do, it's really out of my hands and is God's will so I hope I will be able to keep positive when my 2ww comes around and not worry but I'm sure that's wishful thinking!!

I had 5 IVF transfers and the last one I ate a can of pineapple in the first couple days after transfer. I'm in my second trimester now. I don't know if it was the pineapple, but I'm sure it doesn't hurt :), otherwise you'd hear alot of DON'T EAT PINEAPPLE LOL

Yep, I believe it would be most benificial in the first few days after 5dt and one week after 3dt since that would be when implantation would happen. It couldn't hurt eating some during the full 2 week wait though. Pineapple contains the enzyme bromelain and I read that's what helps with implantation. This is just my thought but, maybe it could even help strengthen a weak implantation, preventing an embryo detachment/early miscarriage/chemical pregnancy what ever you want to call it, during the first 2 weeks.

my two cents....

from what I understand, pineapple core contains a substance called bromelain (see http://www.umm.edu/altmed/articles/bromelain-000289.htm on what this is....)

Some feel this may aid in implantation although I've never seen any studies or anything really official about this.

Interestingly, it has a similar blood-thinning effect like aspirin, which some RE's prescribe after ET as well.

Not sure if it helps but a few REs I've asked say it can't hurt.

You have to eat the core, though, the outside isn't where the enzyme is.

hth....

The right answer is to follow your RE's instructions.

Since there have been no studies (last I checked) of pineapple for implantation, the RE's I have talked to don't put any value in pineapple.

Most of these herbal things turn out to be nothing when they do get researched. If they do turn out to have an active medicine, then timing and concentration may be important.
