Traci - re supplements

Post by phil »

hi traci,

dave and i took quite a few between us...

me
agnus castus
omega 3 fish oils
calcium and magnesium
vitamin e
marilynn grenville womens fertility supplements, which has loads of different vits
folic acid and b complex (but stopped these when i started grenvilles ferti supplements as they have adequate amounts of both in it)
chinese medicine, two types. one for liver and kidney detox and one lot for blood flow to the uterus to improve flow and egg quality.

dave
saw palmetto (got this in tincture form from m grenville or tablet from neals yard)
zinc
marilynn grenvilles fertility supplements for men

traci, one of the biggest issues for me in ivf was egg quality and quality. i had low response to the drugs. i needed to vastly improve my protein intake, which is of huge importantance to reproductive system apparently, and control my fsh. i really believe that the supplements, acupuncture, chinese meds and organic food did it for me. dave seen about a 30% improvement in about 3-4 months in his quality and quantity.

neither of us properly gave up alcohol ( he didn't at all really) and i did on and off.

sorry i got carried away, i know you only asked about the supplements !!

i know you are due to start another treatment. let me know if i can tell you anything else. hope all is well with you.

trace, i would agree with all phil said, i sent a hair sample off to
Foresight (the association for the promotion of preconceptual Care)
and they tell u the minerals and vitamins u are lacking in and advise
on a programme. Im also and still am visiting an acupuncturist,
I had a +result 2wks ago, it was my 4th ici treatment and i was
43 dec just gone, so my major prob was age/quality of the eggs.
I hope everything goes well for u,
alison

hi traci, (i just re-read this, it's a long one...)

i got mine from a few places. agnus castus and marilynn grenville fertility supplements from her clinic, by post.
i got the omega 3 fish oils from nutri ltd, but i'm sure you'll get these from any health store.
calcium, magnesium, vitamin e, folic acid and b complex from tesco or boots or any health store.
dave's were from marilynn grenville's clinic, neals yard for saw palmetto and zinc from tesco.

the chinese medicine was prescribed by my acupuncturist according to my condition; in chinese terms he detected a cold uterus and circulation issues leading to poor egg quality, poor implantation and issues with supporting a pregnancy. a liver deficiency in clearing old hormones etc. your needs could be different so i can't say what you might be prescribed. something to consider is that acupuncture is becoming more widely recognised in treating or supporting treatment for fertility, so you might want to try it. i did it specifically for fertility and i believe it truely helped. if you do go down this route go for someone experienced with fertility.

i did yoga and tai chi as part of overall fitness. it's really good and i'll go back to it as soon as my sickness passes.

also, did you see the post on this site a while back about the study using l'argine in ivf (spelling might be suspect..). the study showed that women using it had better response to the drugs, more eggs produced and higher preg rates. it wasn't a massive study but interesting all the same.

traci, when are you due to start your treatment? are you having straight icsi or assisted hatching too?

hey alisonn, hope your doing well. i'm 43 too and became preg just 3 weeks before my b/day. my egg quality issue was due to age as well and was desperate to do what i could to improve it. the only positive person about improving egg quality was the accupuncturist. he believed it could be improved when ALL the doctors said no. so maybe it was blind faith but it worked for me.

best wishes,

l'arginine and others

Post by Wendy »

Hiya, just thought I'd add my input !!
I took l' arginine, l'cartinine, B6, B complex, folic acid, magnesium, calcium, zinc, vit D, 75mg asprin and 2L water daily plus no alcohol and generally healthy diet,
DH took the same plus co enzyme Q10, selenium, Vit A and Vit C and mega doses of Vit E. He did not take the asprin and water but reduced alcohol generally and had no alcohol the week before doing his bit ,plus generally healthy diet. It worked for us.
We got the idea from a Dr who prescribed him 1000mg Vit E a day for 3 mths and his mobilty went from practically 0 to 35 %
It makes you rattle taking so many pills, but its worth it when it works.
love Wendy :D xxxxx
