New to IVF - scared out of my mind

Post by marianna »

Hi my name is Marianna!.....My husband and I have been TTC for more than a year. We've done numerous IUI and nothing......We're going to do IVF next.....I'm very scared......A friend of mine had it and ended up in the hospital with OHOS.......we have unexplained infertility....I am a teacher and if I do IVF this month.....I'm looking at ER and ET right around the last days of school.....I'm scared I'm not going to feel so good........does anyone know how I could typically be feeling right before ER?.....Any info would be great.......

After i had my er i was a little crampy, but it didn't last long at all. After my et they make you lay there for like 30 minutes or whatever your doc. suggests and i was fine after that. We went to eat at pizza hut right after, not saying to do that.. lol. my doctor told me to take it easy for the next few days, no lifting, laundry, vacuming, ect. I myself felt just fine, glad most of the shots were over, but everyone is different. hope this helps some. btw i was one of the lucky ones and mine took first ivf and am 34 weeks pregnant with a baby girl... good luck..

FYI your emotional roller coaster does not stop!! lol. Wait until you get to your 2ww. But it will all be worth it. Don't let what happen to your friend scare you off, everyone is very very different. We transfered 2 and we were able to freeze 4. We will not to using our 4 frozen, we only wanted to do this once. My dh and i have a 11 year old son together but just couldn't get pregnant with our second. Keeping my fingers crossed for you, hope all goes well. Keep me posted!!

marianna- I am sure the RE's will follow you closely & try to avoid OHSS...even if you start to show early signs there are things that can be done to decrease it. I really didn't even think about OHSS, the process seemed very straightforward. I took the day of ER off and rested the whole day, and went back to work the next day. I did bedrest for 3 days after ET (only b/c it was a 3 day weekend) otherwise most clinics say 24 hrs is enough. The most important thing I think is to avoid any type of heavy lifting or activity.
Good luck!!

Most of the time your clinic has guidelines as far as how many embies they will transfer. At my clinic, if you are under 35, I think they only do 2, and then if you are older they let you do 3 or 4. If you are younger they don't want to put too many b/c the ideal goal is to have one healthy baby. We implanted 2 on 4/25; we won't know how many stuck until 5/29. You need to check with your clinic on their policy.
Good luck!
