Weight Gain

Post by helenlouise »

HI,

I was overweight before i even became pregnant. Now i am constantly hungry and eat things like bread as they are filling. I am already worried about the amount of weight I'll be putting on with my pregnancy. I know i'll be restricted with working and driving sooner rather than later in the pregnancy. I know i'm going to get huge because i have always tended to gain weight , but i am also very short which doesn't help. I wondered whether anyone had issues with gaining lots more weight than is the recommended and whether your midwives ever made an issue of it?
Should i be concerned, or just enjoy growing and worry afterwards!?

I'm all for growing and enjoying and worrying afterwards. You're having twins too aren't you? So you'll be rushing around after them once they are born and will lose weight then.

The only thing to be careful of is that it doesn't affect your health e.g create high blood pressure etc. I'm sure your midwife will be watching out for things like this. If you are worried mention it to her when you next see her and she can monitor your weight. My clinic refuses to weigh you and says you've got enough to worry about! I like that kind of thinking......

I've found being pg with twins that when I'm hungry, I just have to eat! So I do. I'm going to enjoy being pg (as it may be the only time I experience it!) and then I'll go to weight watchers afterwards (been before and lost 1.5 stone in three months - so I know it can be done!) and lose anything leftover.

Don't spend the next few weeks (and they go so quickly!) worrying!

Hi Helen

Did you post on the TAMBA message board? If it wasn't you, this is what I posted on there:

I was overweight when I got pregnant with my twins and until 16 weeks was eating frequently (and unhealthily) to stave off the nausea. However, by the time I gave birth at 39 weeks, I had only put on 2 stone, quite a bit of which was baby. I stopped working at 28 weeks but mainly because of tiredness.

By the time they were 4 months old, I was over a stone lighter than my pre-pregnancy weight. They're now nearly two and the constant running around after them has helped to keep my weight lower than it was. So having twins has been a really good diet for me!

All the best.

Yes it was me on TAMBA! Thought i'd have a nose there and see if theres a club in my area (there is)
I've always been a weight yo-yoer, so am not worried about being bigger, just that it will make me less mobile and more uncomfortable quicker. Suppose I'll just have to go and buy maternity clothes already and get comfy!

Hi Helen

Just wanted to say don't worry about the weight. I put on 4 stone (!) with a singleton pregnancy. It took 8 mths to go on and 8 mths to come off. I made a little bit of effort but I think my body went back to it's pre-pregnant state after abut 5 mths and then the weight came off relatively easily. The most important thing is to eat the right things to make sure the baby gets all of the nutrition it needs. Enjoy your pregnancy!

Hi Helen,

I agree with what everyone says to be honest, I wouldn't worry to much about your weight while being pregnant. When you have the babies then you can think about it then, but then I say that I wouldn't diet straight away because you will just make yourself ill. I am carrying one baby and I have put on 3 and half stone but to be honest I ain't worried I will just do my best to lose it a couple of months after baby is born. Baby needs all the nutrients it can get and if I was watching everything I eat then the baby would be going without too. My hospital or midwife have only weighed me once and this was the 1st visit and they have not weighed me since, probably because they took one look at me and thought well if she gets on our scales she will break them  only joking.
Just enjoy and think about it when you have your miracles in your arms.

Hi Helen,
How are you doing? I know what you mean about putting on weight. I find I am having to eat every two hours or so just to stave off the nausea but find myself eating cheese sandwiches and biscuits and other naughties! I keep reading tht at my stage (9wks and 4 days, 1 baby) that my pregnancy shouldn't be showing yet but I know that I am as I can't fasten any of my trousers and a lot of people have already commented on the size of my bump. I am not so much worried about the weight gain more that I am eating the wrong sort of things. I know if somebody had said to me before treatment that I could have a baby in exchange for putting on a couple of stone I would have jumped at the chance.

Hope you are keeping well, I am feeling really sorry for myself at the moment as I have a horrendous cold and throat infection.

Take care and speak to you soon

Love Jules xx

PS Have you had your next scan date through yet? I havent't and don't know when I should expect one. I registered with my GP on 7 Jan but haven't heard back from the hospital yet.

Hi Helen
I,m the opposite i have lost 6 pounds but my clothes are still getting tighter. I am not eating as much as i have done, my dh says its a miracle. I too am over weight and when i started the tmt in 2001 they told me not to put anymore on but i did 2 stone.i dreaded it incase they weighed me and said i was too fat for the tmt but they never.thank goodness.
I would not worry about it as long as your healthy. I always imagined myself sitting with lots of food and just pigging out, maybe once i feel better it might happen (i to am full of the cold). The bigger the better i say i cannot wait for the bump to appear but i am filling out aroung the middle.

Jules i have not got my scan date through yet either. i registered with my gp on the 9 jan and the midwife on the 13. It can take a few weeks i,m waiting until next week them i am going to phone.

hello girls

I lost weight in the first 3-4 months because I couldn't eat, I just kept being sick! Lovely. But my body started to change shape even though the scales didn't show any increase.

But now I'm well into the second trimester (21 weeks with twins) I'm making up for lost time!!! I eat breakfast every day - some days I get up early just so I can have breakfast!!! I eat lunch and dinner and usually something for supper too.

We've all spent too long waiting to get pg to worry about putting weight on - we can worry about it afterwards!!

Enjoy everyone.

Hello Helen

I was so sick to start with I lost a stone and a half as I didn't eat for weeks. I still find I am not eating that much but the weight is creeping back on. Just try not to worry too much as you need to feed the baby so just eat healthy food, lots of fresh fruit and veg and treat yourself to some naughty things too - we deserve it for going through hell and back to get PG.

I still can't believe I am PG and at 18 weeks 5 days I am only starting to show. All I want is a bump and as a manic yoyo dieter over the years and 1000's of sit up's it seems funny to crave a belly. My DH has given up trying to work me out and leaves me to my madness.

Just remember to eat sensibly when you can. Good luck.

Love Dagny x

Well depite being sick for the first 9 weeks I have still managed to trough more than I lose it appears - one of my friends said I was huge - I did put on two stone when I was pg last year before losing him at 20 weeks and then did not really shift it all but still have managed to put on 8 pounds already - crikey - and actually sod it.
Today I have pigged like a right porker - bagels, crisps, celery sticks the odd apple and several chedderies with philly - yum
I would try not to worry too much - says me worrying one of the twins has gone! Just waiting for the scan for 12 weeks to come through - my hospital takes yonks!
Love
Tracey
