What to do with extra meds and needles.

Post by christie76 »

I have a bunch of extra meds and needles that I won't be using. I called my doctor's office and they won't take them back. The pharmacy will take them back, but will have to dispose of them. I hate to just throw it away if someone else could use them. I don't want to sell them, but give them away. What has everyone else done with theirs?

Thanks!

First, congrats on your BFP! I am on the 2ww of my 2nd IVF cycle. The first cycle, I had an allergic rxn to PIO (sesame oil). My pharm also told me they would discard it if I returned it to them even though the extra had not been opened/punctured. So, I called my RE's office. They were ecstatic that I would donate it and said it would likely help someone in the near future. I have left over meds from this 2nd cycle. If I am lucky enough to get my BFP, I plan to donate them to my RE's office. You might want to call again and explain you are willing to donate the meds. Maybe they misunderstood. Best of luck in your pregnancy. :)

It's actually a liability so a lot of RE's offices won't take them. You are liable if something were to happen if you just donated them to some stranger...so again, it's hard to know what to do with them. Post on the FreeGarageSale board: http://freegaragesale.net/cls.htm#med or maybe the ART meds board?:http://sharedjourney.com/yabbse/ART_Work-8-2-0-0.html

Again, it's illegal to sell prescription meds, and most doctors won't take them due to the liability so you have to use your best judgement. Tons and tons of women out there would be willing to take them off your hands though, especially if they aren't opened or tampered with :) Good luck!

My re's office took the extra meds no problem. I guess there's a liability thing for them but if everything is sealed, not sure how anyone would be able to tamper w/ it. I agree about donating them to a "stranger"--you don't want someone to come back to you and blame you for something. Goodl luck
