Hi Helly I just wanted to say we have a beautiful son with anonymous eggdonor as the sister thing didnt work out. He looks just like dh is built like him and also his half brother (now 20). I never think of him as anything other than my son, or he of me as his mummy. I had POF and went through a long time trying for a child before that was diagnosed definitively, and had a breakdown and months of therapy to make the next step donor eggs. My only advice is just dont tell everyone what you are doing on the donor front, let the choice of telling or not telling stay open. Only my very closest family know (and i wish they didnt), my husbands family dont know anything about it. It also avoids anyone blurting something out before you are ready to address the issue with your child - assuming you decide to - we havent decided yet.

Congratulations to you and your DH. Are they from an anonymous eggdonor too? Thanks for your advice. We wouldn't tell many people about it. Just family and close friends. Can I ask what POF is? Polycistic Ovary Something?? I've heard of POS but not POF. For me, I've just simply come down the the end of my egg supply. Therefore the quality is diminished. I'm 37 so it's happened a bit early for me. I've always had very short cycles 21-23 days therefore I've ovulated more frequently then the average 28 day cycle woman.

Sonia - Thanks for the book title. I've just ordered it through Amazon so I can't wait to receive it!! All the very best for your donor process in May/June.

Rhalloo - Thanks for the welcome and your advice. Yes the pregnancy thing is HUGE for me. I definately want to experience that. Also my DH's sperm is fine so at least our children will be half biologically his. I'm still hoping there will be a miracle and I'll concieve naturally with my own eggs. I guess I'm still not ready to accept it 100% yet.

Jenbabes - I appreciate you putting me onto Rebecca who is in a similar position to me. I believe she's due any day now. I hope things went well with your DE discussion.

Hi Ladies,

I am new at posting at this thread but I read a lot of your messages and they are very very helpful!!! and I would like to join you. I have done 4 IVFs with no success and now my DH and I have decided that it is time to do with an egg donor (anonymous). We are supposed to start the medications today but the nurse just found out that the prolactin levels were not checked and on my last IVF (at other clinic) they found high prolactin levels that had to be controlled before the treatment (they did not want to control prolactin and do the cycle at the same time). The nurse says that it is fine for me to start the treatment and control the prolactin with medications at the same time, which bothers me a little since I really don't want anything to interfere with this cycle, and I wanted to know if you had this problem before and what you could recommend me. Last year the other clinic waited for the prolactin to be normal to start a cycle, although, the IVF did not work (':(')


Please any advice will be very appreciated!!!!

Checking back in and have missed you over the last few weeks. Sorry for being such a rubbish egghead buddy just recently but I have been popping in to read again. I’ve been away - on two business trips – which I’m glad to have out of the way before my next (4th!) attempt at a run for transfer.

Welcome to Blinky, good that you’ve found us here. I can’t help too much about prolactin levels, just that I’ve been checked a few times in the last few years and on 2 occasions the level was slightly high so I was put on meds for a short time. I asked my former IVF specialist last week if I should be checked again cos I’m just starting treatment again. He said he would if I wanted him to but it wasn’t too important. Hoping too that prolactin levels can be controlled parallel to treatment if necessary. Good luck with your treatment and do keep us posted.

With the help of 10 days on meds AF arrived on Thursday and we’re going straight into the transfer cycle this time. So started injecting again. Ouch! A new protocol this time is keeping my hope alive. If it was a regular lining problem I think my docs would have it sorted by now. Our specialist here confirmed during our appointment this week that my problem with lining not holding out long enough during the cycle is not very common. He insisted we keep him informed on our progress so sounds like I am quite an interesting medical case. Anyway I have my first scan on Thursday which will be cycle day 8. Just keep moving forward, right?!

Hi Sonia, thank you very much for your welcome and for the reply to my post. At the end, my DH and I decided to postpone the treatment so we will be starting at around April 15. I also got the results of my prolactin levels and they were high so I already started taking medication (Dostinex) and in a few weeks the levels should be back to normal. So in a way, i think it was good to delay the treatment so I was not getting stressed about one more thing (I was already stressed with the fact that the nurse did not check my prolactin levels a few weeks ago when I mentioned to her that last time they were high)

Sonia, please let me know how everything goes with your treatment. I really hope it is going to work for all of us and we can go through this roller coster again! Is there anyone else starting medications during these weeks?

For all those who are on those 2 longest weeks, and those who are thinking on doing one more IVF, I really wish you all the best and keep yourselves optimistics, I have read soo many great news in this threat that it looks there is a lot of hope! Congratulations Kellyn and BigJ (twins, triplets!!!WOW) and to the other girls that are already expecting beatiful babies...it should work for all of us!!!

Sorry - haven't got much advice on the DE thing as I feel like I'm still a newbie in this area too. Although I have had one attempt at DE in Jan this year, it's still taking me some time to get my head around things. I started to read this thread from the beginning and thanks to the fabulous women who started it, it's got me off to a great start! I think it's one of those things where everyone needs their own time frame to get their head around it and knowing you're not the only ones going through this bizarre situation really does help! All the best of luck girls!

Well, as for me, a quick update - I tried to sneak in a quick FET before I start a new job this month, but of course, me being me, the big plan backfired and was cancelled. My RE was trying a radical FET protocol using low dose stims as previously my lining thickness hasn't been responding well to the regular protocol of patches and pills. Last week, they found a fibroid an all was cancelled

Had another scan in the weekend and the fibroid has managed to morph into a UFO of some sort! (Unidentifiable fibroid object!!!). Like you Sonia, my RE is closely monitoring me and actually called me his 'interesting' case! I felt like yelling "I don't want to be interesting - I just want to be NORMAL...!!!" It now no longer looks like a fibroid, but has the consistency of a fluid filled cyst - in the uterus? What's going on? RE seems to think it may be hormonally influenced as I had been on low dose stims for a week before they found it Only time will tell - Next scan this Wednesday...

Hi Everyone,

Blinky – sorry to hear you had to postpone your treatment cycle in the end. I was on Dostinex a couple of times in the past and the levels were back to normal again within a short time. Have you started off again with treatment? Hope you are making good progress. Maybe you will catch up with me as I have to try and build up my lining very slowly this time. My next lining scan will be on Monday or Tuesday.

The results of my blood tests came through last week. I didn't get to find out the results in detail, my doc just reported that my prolactin and thyroid levels were OK, which was a relief. Like you say, one less thing to get stressed about.

Kelly how are you doing? I'd love to hear how you are getting on.

Rhalloo - sorry, I've forgotten when you will be starting treatment again. It sounds like time will be flying by for you with your fun job.

JenB – hope you are having lots of fun weekends away. How you doing? Not long til your big hols now!

Andrea - sorry to hear about your last cycle. It is frustrating to get so far down the road and then have it stopped suddening. Hopefully everything will be in line for your next attempt. I definitely can relate to be 'an interesting case' - it is very frustrating to get that response from doctors when all you want are answers, not to be a challenge for them to solve!

As for me, things are going well. I feel good and can't believe how quickly the time is passing. Two weeks ago when my DH and I went for the ultrasound, the ultrasound technician asked us whether we wanted to know the sex - we don't, so we told her that. She then spent 5 mins trying to convince us why we should and why other parents do. Then she made some comments that have us analyzing whether she was trying to tell us. It was a very strange experience. Anyway, I am convinced that we are having 2 boys and my DH is convinced we are having a boy and a girl - so who knows!

Hope everyone had a fantastic weekend! It was a long weekend for us so now I get to enjoy a short 4 day work week!!

I wish I could post better news but my cycle is cancelled again and we seem to be at the end of our journey.

This was the 4th attempt to get to transfer in the last year with various protocols and the 4th cancelled cycle. Understandably the doctor at the DE clinic feels he can't do much more for us. They sent us a long email at midday today.

The last few days have been a nightmare. First signs of AF on Sunday…a short bleed on Monday…lining was reduced but bleeding stopped… hopes up… but today there was not much left to measure. Maybe there is an answer to my lining problem but I just don't know if we will ever find it. Life is not much fun at the moment.

Thanks so much for all your invaluable support and just for being there. Don't know where I would have been without you and can't thank you enough.

Hi all - just coming up for air after starting my new job. You know what it's like for the first couple of weeks - getting used to new people and a new environment, focussing on the job and definitely no surfing the net, especially on web sites like this! I must say, it's great to have an income again though - just in time for the Singapore sales, which are fabulous at this time of the year! (But unfortunately the reality is that most of our income is being channelled straight into my doctor's pockets right now...!)

Sonia - I'm so sorry dear. I've written to you on the other thread. Can you try changing clinics to get a second opinion? I do know what it's like to have just had enough though. Take a good long break, then see how you feel after...Take care x

Congratulations Rebecca on the twins! I remember just joining this forum in Aug and you had just announced your BFP! Time has certainly gone fast. What are the girl's names? How are you coping without your family there in US? Are you getting any sleep?! You must be on cloud nine!

Kelly - Great to hear you and the twins are well. Good on you for sticking to your guns and not wanting to know the sex of the twins!

As for me - my UFO or unidentified fibroid objects seem to have disppeared when AF arrived! They've been diagnosed as 'artifacts'! but I'm still being monitored quite closely as at one stage one doc told me I would need open surgery to remove them! Does anyone here know what an 'artefact' is? (I told my doc I feel like an old artefact, as I'm sure I'm one of the oldest patients there and am certainly one of the oldest 'lingering' patients around, after 4 and a half years of all this mallarky...! )

I’m sorry to crash your thread but I have a question I am hoping someone can answer. Long story short-After IVF #5 and another miscarriage, my RE suspects egg quality issues. He thought this before we started and so we did PGD. However, we had 4 of 12 come back as normal and transferred 3. He said that I am only the second patient that has done PDG that has come back with more than 3 (it is only done on select patients). That being said, I met with him yesterday as a follow up and he still thinks egg quality is at play. He said PGD only tests for 10 of the chromosomes and it could even be something other than a chromosome issue. He also said that given my age, 50-60% should have come back normal. His recommendation was donor eggs (DH has no sperm issues).

DH and I had already decided on adoption but you know how life can be, after adoption we may end up back on the IVF wagon with DE. It occurred to me as I was driving away from his office that I forgot to ask an important question.

What causes a 34 year old person to have egg issues? I realize the older people get that their egg quality goes down but that is the only reason I know about. Is there anything a person can do to improve their egg quality? I have always been a great responder, somewhere around 56 eggs with 4 fresh cycles and we have 2 frosties. I’m just trying to put the pieces together and hope someone can help. Thanks!
