For Di

Post by Zed2003 »

Hi Di,

Taken a bit to reply, but yes, the place in the West end is the place we went to - I think they are the only ones that do it now.

Anyway, can't stress enough how nice they are and as I said they really took their time - 45 minutes - soooooooooo different from our booking scan which I felt was very impersonal and rushed after all the EPU scans etc we'd had. I hadn't felt much at 21 weeks, and to see him kick, wriggle and suck his thumb for 45 minutes (but not be actually feeling him) was very reassuring. They really go into detail, quite scary as they explain what they're looking for as they go along - but exciting at the same time. A woman named Karolyn did our scan and she was very interested - made it even more personal. I wish we'd known about the video before we made the appointment - it's something I would watch over and over - and it would be amazing to show your son/daughter - just imagine!!!

Will you find out the sex? Anyway, hope all goes well

Hi Zoe,
Sorry its taken awhile to reply!
We didn't go for the scan on Monday as when we went to the high risk antenatal app't at Edinburgh Royal they scanned me there to see if my blood supply to uterus was ok. We mentioned that we'd booked a private scan and was informed that as we'd had ICSI we were entitled to a detailed scan on the NHS -so that's booked for tomorrow!
The scan on Friday was fine - I was told I was normal - which is a first!!! lol. Baby was fine , which was a relief as the midwife had trouble finding the heartbeat when we arrived!; and the blood flow was the same as for any other pregnant woman!
How are you doing? Do you stay near Edinburgh then? How many weeks are you now?
I'm 22 weeks and felt the first definite kick today - very exciting!

Hi Di,

Good to hear from you - it's amzing how you fret about people you don't even know. I kept saying to dh - it's funny how she's not posted anything!!!!

Anyway, it's good you get another scan on the NHS - I think it's disgraceful that after everything we go through, we don't get one at 21 weeks. We had so many scans early on because of problems (by the time I got my scheduled booking scan at 14 weeks - that was about our 5th or 6th!) and then suddenly we where told all was fine and that was that. I was going nuts and the midwife thought it was ridiculous as we'd had so much contact (almost daily) with clinics and psychologically to feel that isolated suddenly was bad, and she tried to fit us into a 'category' for scanning, but as I wasn't 'high'risk' or a drug user etc, I was told no by the powers that be... Hmmmmm.

Anyway, it must be a relief to know all was ok, and a kick too!!! It's very exciting when that happens and it continues to be!!!!! I think our wee one is either lazy or turned in, as often I'm not feeling him which completely freaks me out, so I poke and poke until I get some reaction. Boy, is he going to pay me back when he is born!!!!

Yes, we stay near Edinburgh but are out the other side from you in East Lothian. Been here over 3 years and like it. I'm 31 weeks (never thought I'd ever get to say that!) and just letting myself become excited about it all lately... Done nothing in terms of buying, except ordered a pram last week but only 'cos they told me there was 10 weeks delivery and at 30 weeks then I thought oooops! (Costorphine Pram Centre are excellent).

Anyway, look forward to hearing about the scan tomorrow. Start relaxing properly now!!! and enjoy the next few weeks - you're half way there. It's all soooo exciting...

Hi Zoe,
THANKS FOR YOUR CONCERN - I DEFINETLY KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN ABOUT BEING ANXIOUS FOR OTHERS ON THE SITE IF YOU'VE NOT HEARD FROM THEM IN AWHILE!!!
SCAN WENT WELL TODAY - WAS IN THERE HALF AN HOUR BUT IT FELT LIKE 5 MINS - IT WAS ALL SO EXCITING. AND MORES THE POINT NO PROBLEMS WERE FOUND - I CAME OUT ALL GIGGLY WITH RELIEF!!!
THE CONSULTANT TRIED TO SEE IF IT WAS A BOY OR GIRL BUT THE BABY WAS KEEPING IT A SECRET!!!
HOPE YOU ARE KEEPING WELL. WE WENT TO THE PRAM CENTRE IN CORSTORPHINE AND WERE IGNORED TOTALLY! JUST SHOWS - YOUR FACES MUST HAVE FIT BETTER THAN OUR SCRUFFY ONES!!! LOL.

Great news about the scan - shame you couldn't find out what the wee one was - but would you have wanted to know??! Anyway, it doesn't matter really as everything was ok - relief eh?

Can't believe you were ignored in the pram cantre - a shocker. Can't say I looked very 'respectable', was in combats, a denim jacket and pigtails as my hair needed washed!!!! :D Maybe they were just bored the day we were in ! lol. (more likely it was the fact I looked so big so they knew we would need something quickly.... )

Now you know all is ok - are you going to shop with a vengence?

Hi Zoe,
We would have loved to find out if its a boy or girl - but as its not to be we don't mind! Its like when the nuchal scan couldn't be done cos the baby wouldn't turn the right way I just thought well that's the baby decided that!!! :o
Maybe the pram centre didn't pay much attention cos I wasn't looking particularly pg with my oversized coat on!!! Will try again in clingy leggings and top - and report back!!! lol.
We're definetly thinking of buying a few things over the next few weeks - although we don't need to get too much as lots of our friends are donating their unwanted baby items! Think we only need a pram, decor for the nursery and baby chair!!

Hey Di,

Sounds like you have one that knows his/her mind :o !!
We did no tests except for the cystic fibrosis one and decided to have faith...

We've still bought nothing, but seen a lovely cot in the pram centre - but v. expensive. We've decided 'what the hell' we may ony get to do this once   It's quite good though as it goes into a bed, then 2 seperate chairs, so it'll last a while. It doesn't seem as imposing as other cots too... (am I convincing myself or what?? ) I long to shop for this child, but like you, I think we'll get a lot of stuff. My M-I-L is going to prove unstoppable (first grandchild) and my sis also had a wee boy in November (also first grandchild), so I think we'll get a lot of stuff from her - terrible to say, but I buy Kristian all cutey stuff that I know'll get passd back to Sam!! :D  LOL

Anyway, take it easy and have a good weekend!

Hi Zoe, the cot sounds like a really good investment and will last ages! And what does money matter at the end of the day?!!!
My M-I-L ia driving me mad! In-laws have said they'll buy us the pram - so we took them to see the Jane 360 powertrack system - which we really like. Well my M-I-L couldn't have been more negative - even the shop assisstant was getting p'd off with her!!! On the whole my M-I-L has a very neg veiw of life and in the 11 years I've been with DH I can't remember her coming out with a positive remark about anything!!!!
Oh Am I in for some fun!!!
Happy shopping!

Hi Di, good to hear from you.

Poor you with your M-I-L :( What's not to like about the pram? - we're getting the matrix in the racing red :D :D and my sister has it in another colour and highly recommends it. I'm lucky that my M-I-L is the complete opposite and wants to buy everything if I'd let her... :D and she loves the pram - sees herself as the trendy nana on the block pushing it I think!

Hey, you'll be the ones 'driving' it. You'd think after everything you've been through she wouldn't care, and it would be a case of 'you want it, you got it'... She sounds a bit too negative - just get it to annoy her

Ahh well, at least she'll nly have to have input into the pram..

How you doing anyway. Can you believe how the time is passing?
