new, sad, and very scared

Post by Leigh28 »

I am new to this and am very scared about my recently unsuccessful IVF/ICSI. I am 28 and appear to be in good health; however, my husband is 32 and has very low sperm motility (as low as 1% at times). We just finished IVF ICSI with 9 fertilized eggs. We transferred 2 grade A embryos and froze 3. Everything looked good-dr. was positive and even said that twins were highly possible. Then, 1st HCG was at 16 and dropped to 6 when we went in 2 days later. Nurse said it was likely biochemical pregnancy. I am scared about what caused the embryos to "peter out" as she described it. I fear that there is some undetected genetic factor in my husband (other than the ones he tested for--y chromosome microdeletion I think?). I am so scared that there is something wrong with the remaining 3 embryos. Is there anyone in a situation similar to mine? Also, has anyone had biochemical pregnancy with first IVF/ICSI and success with the FET? One more question--Our dr. said it is fine to start FET transfer process with my next period. Have others heard the same? I am just so sad and scared...

Hi Leigh,

Sorry to hear about your recent bio-chem. It's a tough thing to go thru.

In response to your question, on my 3rd IVF attempt (first time at a new clinic), I also had a bio-chem from a fresh IVF cycle. I then waited 2 months and had a FET where they transfered 2 x embryos for the first time. I am now 21 weeks along with twins. Treat a bio-chem as a good sign that things are happening and that there is hope. I am living proof!

Good luck with your FET

Hi Leigh
Yep I do know how you feel. We also did isci and had the same problems. Although we didn't even get any fertilisation. I got nine eggs but they only got 3 abnormal sprem from dh's TESA. We are now travelling down the donor path doing iui's. It has been a really long painful process and I think even harder for men to get there heads around the sperm issue. The ladies here are really supportive and it's good to talk to others that are in the same situation. I really hope that the FET gives you a better result.

Hi Sorry this is over a month late. I just returned to this site. My husband & I needed a break. I too had 2 chemical pregnancies which the Dr. said is very, very odd. Especially since the cycles were right after each other. I had surgery in Dec 07 to remove 6 fibroids. We took 3 months off after the surgery plus the Dr. wanted us to try naturally...no luck. So now I'm waiting for AF then 10 days after the start of AF they will start to monitor me & watch to see if I ovulate. Once I do 3 days later they will take my frozen embroys & put 3 in. Then I will have 3 left. It's a little nerve racking but I know 5 couples who got pregnant with the frozen ones then with the fresh cycle. I still believe its in Gods hands. I am still debating if I want to try all 6 frozen or 3 at a time. I tried 2 the first time then 3 then 4 so I never tried 6  Keep your fingers crossed & I will say a prayer for you. NEVER GIVE UP!!!!!!!!!

Hi

I hope that since you posted your message things have brightened up for you. It is so devastating being faced with this whole thing. I am 26, have been married for 6 wonderful months and we have just found out my husband has the same issues as yours - at our visit to the specialist yesterday we were told that he has dropped even lower so now his count is under 1 million. We are just devastated.

We're hoping to start a cycle in July. I'm nervous, freaked out and just want it to work the first time round.

Let me know how you go.

Good luck.
