progesterone injections

Post by April11 »

Hello,
I would like to ask/know about other's experiences how long have you been on progesterone injections? The thing is that I did IVF in the USA but I don't live there. So the doctor who did the IVF can't do the ultrasound. He just suggested in e-mail that I should quit my progesterone injection on May 25th, that means at the end of my 10th week. The doctor in my home country is not specialized to IVF, so she hasn't a strict opinion when I should quit the progesterone injections.
What are your experiences?

April 11. I have done the injections (when I lived in the US) but my last round was in NZ, where they use pessaries. No different really (injections hurt, pessaries are messy).

I came off the progesterone at 9 wks. It was hard coming off them as they are a real security blanket but the research I did was around 9-13 wks. Apparently the placenta takes over progesterone production by 9 wks. If your obgyn has no firm opinion you could stay on them another week or so (just to make you feel better).

All the very best with your pregnancy.

April- first of all- CONGRATS ON YOUR BFP!!

I was on progesterone injections and suppositories until 12 weeks( end of 12th week) and just suppositories for another week. My docs seem to go with this, though it turns out that I was only supposed to be on them until week beginning of 12 - i just misunderstood - but no worries!
I went a bit longer than most, 10wks seems to be the norm - it's really all up to your docs, you and the protocol. My docs seem to go until 12 as a rule- just to be on the safe side

sounds like your docs at 10wks are about the norm

good luck!

April 11:

Congratulations on your BFP!!!

As for me, I'm still on the progesterone 2cc injections. I was on daily doses up until week 9 when I started spotting. I was placed on 2cc 2x/day for two weeks and then dropped down to daily administering again. Then at week 24, I was down graded to 1x/week Progesterone injections. I'm at week 28 now. I've got about two more weekly shots, week 29 and week 30. I can't wait. Every doctor is different, though. I am in the US.
