February Cycle Buddies (FCB's)

Post by wendy30 »

Hi

Any buddies out there that are having their treatment in February?

I am hopefully (fingers crossed) starting my 4th attempt soon, I have already had a zoledax injection and am supposed to scan and start injections on January 29th with the second week in February as my dates for collection & implant. This is my third full attempt so I'm going for 3rd full attempt lucky (as third time lucky didn't work last time.

I'm 30 and have severe endo and have been at this for what seems an eternity, Sep 2001, February 2002 & October 2003. Feeling a bit stressed with the run up to the treatment with trying to deal with practicalities like what about work (this time my GP is signing me of for 3 weeks) and also crabit as anything (hormones) which is driving my poor husband nuts.

Just looking for others who will be feeling the same as me for the next month or so, I know the girls who were in the OCB's last time were great support.

Hey Wendy and July Ann,
Great to be cycling with you both. I was an OCB too, so great to be back with such a supportive group of women.
This will be a natural FET for me, we had a positive on our last FET then a miscarriage, was all very traumatic. We feel positive again and rested after a three month gap, we're ready to go again!
I'm on holidays at my parents house currently, we live in Brisbane (Qld Australia) and mum and dad live in Sydney, so we're down for ten days. They have a fabulous house on the water just north of Sydney, so is very therapeutic to rest up before the next inevitable step. I'm 30 and have severe endo like Wendy, so IVF is our only chance at a family.
Fingers crossed for all of us FCB's (Fantastic Cycle Buddies!).

Hi all,
I will join the FCB. I'm starting sniffing tomorrow. If all goes well I am booked for ec on Feb 25th. This is my first ivf cycle. very scarey but also excited to actually be doing something.
I did post on the JCB but am a bit behind so I am really pleased there is a FCB group.
I've got loads of questions which I hope some of you can answer. My clinic has not been very forthcoming on advice. Actually they have given me no advice.
When do I need to start drinking 2 ltrs of water and a ltr of milk?
Do I have to stop coffee and tea now?
Did I pick up that we shouldn't eat chocolate?
I did have half a pint of lager last night. Is that allowed?
I haven't picked up my injection medicine yet. The clinic have told me that I am going on Meneril (or something like that). Not Purgeron or Gonal F which I have heard others on this site talk about. Has anyone heard of this med? Apparently its cheaper, but I hope it is just as effective. Its still around £500.00.

Good luck to you all.

Hi Belinda

Its mad to think you are going through IVF at the same time as someone on the other side of the world, we live in Edinburgh, yet you can still chat to each other. Hope your enjoying your rest and what I assume to be nice weather, its a typical Scottish winter here just waiting on the snow.
Sorry things didn't work out for you last time, I'm sure it'll work out better this time for all of us.

Hi Sophie-Jane

Hope you started sniffing okay today. My hospital is not very informative about these things , when I asked about the baby asprin they said that there was no evidence at all either way and that if they thought it would be beneficial they would advise it. Am I right in thinking that the milk is for after the egg retrival, it certainly helped with my pains last time and as far as the water goes drink loads right the way through.
Its funny how you get about things with this, last time I stopped using perfume, only used unperfumed roll on deoderant, stopped any aerosols being used in the house, stopped using strong cleaning fluids (reverted to vinegar & lemons), used baby bath, lotion, shampoo. I read something about toxins and I know you can't use essential oils. As far as food and drink goes I've cut down on caffine and once I start injecting will stop eating things like brie, peanuts & shellfish, just like you would if you were pregnant. With regards alcohol, I wouldn't assume that at this stage the odd half pint or bacardi breezer would do you any harm.
Tell you what though if this close to Christmas you can resist all your left over chocolates then your a stronger woman than me. When I asked about all this at the hospital they just say to do what you feel comfortable with and the more you do then the more like you feel that youve given it your best shot.

As far as your drugs go, its Menopur that I've always been given. Are you at a private clinic? My treatment is at Simpsons Maternity Hospital and if your funding it yourself or if they are footing the bill the drugs have always been the same. Don't worry, I always think if are looking after yourself the same way as you would if you were pregnant then I don't think you can go far wrong.

I've got my scan on Thursday and if it all looks fine the I'll be starting my injections.

What are you all doing about work during your cycles? My GP has agreed to sign me off from the start of my injections until the result this time, 3 weeks, I've always just taken a couple of weeks holiday before so hopefully being off will help.

Speak to you all soon. :)

Hey Fantastic cycle buddies,
The weather in Sydney has been gorgeous today, my mum, dh and I went for a day of shoping (we bought up pretty big). I think its important to be as relaxed and rested before another FET cycle as possible (my visa card is unfortunately a little stressed!)
Wendy, you're right, it is mad to be cycling and chatting with you on the other side of the world. I loved Edinburgh, I was travelling through Europe at millenium time and had Hogmaney (don't know if the spelling is correct) on Princess Street, was truly amazing.
Sophie-Jane, welcome!, is lovely to have more of us cycling together. I was an OCB, and found the support of this group really wonderful. Don't stress about your questions, I agree with Wendy's answers, all sounds senisble to me, and if you have any further questions, either post them on here, or ask your clinic, they're used to lots and lots of questions!
Well girls, I'm waiting for af to come, then its off for blood tests awaiting the LH surge, once I get that hopefully my embies will defrost and I can have them transferred. Should be mid Feb I think.
Take it easy, chat soon

Hi Girls

Belinda, I'm jealous of your lovely weather, its snowing & icy here and some minus temperature. But as you've been to Princes Street on Hogmany I'm sure you can imagine.

Hi Susan, I'm sure like the rest of us things will go better for us all this time.

Chat to you all soon. :)

Hi Wendy, Belinda, Susan and July Ann,

Wendy thank you for your long post telling me some of the do's and donts. I'm going to try and get a consultation at the local chinese medicine / acupuncture tomorrow as well. It means skiving off work but heh - i don't care.
Wendy - you mentioned work. I have booked off (annual leave) the week of ec and et and half of the next week. If I don't feel this is long enough I will just take the time off sick. I'm jealous of you taking 3 weeks off, so thinking about it I might join you. I'm owed another weeks leave before April anyway.
I've also decided that if this cycle doesn't go well I am going to go part time. I work about 50 hours a week at the moment.

Well the sniffing a bits weird isn't it. It doesn't feel like I'm sniffing hard enough as it has dripped out a couple of times. I phoned the clinic and she says I should be alright. It really does rule your waking (and my sleeping) day.
I do it at 10pm before I go to bed so lie awake for ages thinking about the whole ivf and baby thing. Then wake up at the crack of dawn worried that I may not have heard my alarm. Lie awake until 6am when I do the next sniff. I then had to walk out of a meeting yesterday and today at 2pm to go and have a nother sniff. I walked back into the meeting still sniffing and with red eyes (does it also give you red eyes?). I hope they don't think I'm a coke addict??

I am getting really excited. Just waiting for the mood swings and hot flushes to hit me.

Still got a month until ec. Hurrryyyyy up, i want it all over with.

Belinda - it is snowing here .... its freezing (but i wont be as cold as Wendy is in Scotland) - blow some of the Sydney weather over this way.

Susan - enjoy your massage. You'll be starting the injections before me so I'll be checking to see how you are doing. And DONT WORRY about ohss...it wont happen this time round.
JulyAnn - the odds are that you will be a positive this go. 3 times lucky.

Good luck to us all.

Hey my fantastic cycle buddies,
We're growing in numbers, that's wonderful, the more the merrier I say. I'm always amazed by how truly universal our expereinces are, we live on different continents and we have so much in common.

Wendy, I loved the snow and ice, we went ice skating just off Princess Street on Christmas day, was an amzing expreince, this Christmas was 40 degrees Celcius at home (thank goodness for air conditioning!), my in laws like the traditional English Christmas though, and in 40 degree heat serviced hot ham, pork and turkey..UGH!

Jane, great idea re. taking time off work,. I had scheduled in two days after my egg pick up, then got ohss (like Susan) and ended up in hospital, my doctor wouldn't do fresh embryo transfer as I was too ill (required catheterisation etc), and I had to wait for frozen embry transfer later on. I'm sure things will go better for you (ohss is awful!).

Susan, is an awful thing getting ohss, was always one of those far removed risks, then bam, it happens to you and next thing you know you're in hospital. Am very positive for us all Susan, this time it will be better, I just know it!

July anne, when do you do the di?, I don't know much about di, I guess you go through the whole egg collection thing, then they mix your eggs with donor sperm?

Well gals, off to the beach for this little chick, its a gorgeous day here, we're heading up the coast to see a friend in Newcastle, and then hopefully there will be time for a swim. Am keenly awaiting af, bizarre isn't it, we've been ttc for almost two years, I've cried buckets when af arrived previously, now I can't wait!, as soon as she gets here, I can start testing for a natural FET cycle.
Lots of PMA to all! :D :D :D :D :D

Hey Fantastic ones,
Welcome Loopy!, we cycled together in October, is a bit of a reunion happening here hey! :D
I had a funny day today, went for a swim with dh at a great beach, got caught in some huge dumping waves and ended up with my bikini top around my ears    The embarassing thing was that exactly the same thing happened when I swam a few days ago at the same beach and I flashed at my brothers best friend, who should I flash at today, the same guy!!!   Oh dear.
Am waiting for af to come along so I can get started on my FET cycle.
Lots and lots of PMA to all
