Am scared stiff.. so new to this

Post by Nikkibute »

Hi I'm Nikki, live in Glasgow and am happily married to Glen.. we recently discovered that the only way of us having a family is IVF.. although have the support and love of all my family and friends none of them know anything about it.. and to be honest neither do I.. I have heard so many things.. how it affects your life, how it can deharmonise even the most solid of relationships..I am really nervous, what doesn't help is the last stone I have to shift before we start is going nowhere.. it feels like it staying put for a reason.. any advice would be amazing..

Hi Nikki- welcome to the board!
you will find a lot of experienced and wise ladies that can answer just about any question!
Just make sure you and hubby are 100% invested b/c it can be toll emotionally...IVF is a very long process. There are several appts and medications involved. Make sure you can fit it into you work schedule, and the financing is right. We just transferred 2 embryos from our 1st IVF/ICSI and I am nervous as heck waiting for the results. It has been an eye opening experience, and I praise God everyday that my DH has been so wonderful to me!
Stay faithful and keep praying!
God Bless!

Hi Nikki

We live in Cheshire, we get 3 cycles on NHS however the waiting list is 2.5 years wait, we've been on it a year just, so am toying with the idea of private but yes I bloody expensive.

Was also told to loose some excess tyres, and although am not committed 100 % I am on the weight watchers programme, and slowly its coming off, have lost just over a stone, only 1/2 stone now to lose, then will be happier, have also given up alcohol, but Its all worth it. I don't do that much exercise, but do go walking and eat lots of salads and fruit.

So good luck on weight lost!

Hi Nikki

I think like all things in life that offer great rewards, they also include some element of risk.. IVF is one of those..

The things that u have heard, that it can take atoll on relationships, well yes, but would depend on how solid and committed to it you both are. Also depends on how long you are trying for. My husband has been incredibly supportive, and many IVF hubbies are. IVF can be emotionally draining, its a bit of a rollercoaster, as it takes up a lot of your time and energy to go through a cycle, but when you finally get a positive result, its all worth it!!

My advice if u r worried on the way it may affect your relationship, is to keep talking about your feelings to each other, your partner will be the closest to you in this, although your friends and fam will be able to offer support ( if you choose to tell them). Even so, I've found that it can feel like a lonley place sometimes, as even hubby doesnt experience what you go through physically and emotionally, as they are one step removed.

Good that u have joined up!

I have only found this place after three cycles, wish I had found it sooner!!
