8 hour shopping spree!!!

Post by Nikola »

hello all

I had my appointment with the nursery adviser on saturday at john lewis and thought I'd report back that I didn't leave the shop until 8 hours later!!!!

When we left the nursery department, I felt like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman, it took three people and a trolley to carry everything out to the cab, whilst I walked along behind. We had to walk through the shop so everyone was watching and gasping at how much we had bought - it was FANTASTIC!!!! I only wish it had been lots of designer clothes, but hey, breast pads are a close second!!

The other major decision I made was on a pushchair!! I fell in love with my bugaboo......they only make singles - so we bought TWO! I want them to make me a double too, but it doesn't look like that will happen before these two arrive.......so we have yet to buy a double buggy, but I'm making progress with that too. :?

Anyone who is having one baby, should seriously look at a bugaboo, they are the coollest thing I've ever seen!!! I realise its slightly extravagent to buy two, but once I'd tried it I had to have it!!

The nursery adviser (Robert) at John Lewis was brilliant and again I'd advise this to anyone. Dh and I were still in a bit of denial and neither of us had bought a single thing and we needed pushing into action. Robert was fantastic, he didn't try to sell us anything, in fact he talked me out of buying a lot of things and they price-match anything you can get cheaper elsewhere.

The Adviser just walks round and goes through things logically so you don't forget anything and you say yes I'll have that and that and he walks round with a trolley (or three in our case!) and organises everything. Its the most exciting day I've had since I found out I was pregnant!! It was just like being on Pretty Woman!!!

I was seriously in need of a foot rub at the end of it though I can tell you! I'm glad I did it now before I get any bigger!!!

 Hahahaha Nikola,

Sounds like you had a great time mate - we spent a similar time in our local baby shop (apart from 40 min break in a local cafe for some nice hot soup and sarnie lunch) except we came away with absolutely nothing (apart from a half-paid bill for £1k!) as we've yet to go and collect everything. :D

Yes, I agree the excitement is amazing.

Do you (or maybe Helen and her extensive circle of contacts :) ) know any good welders who could turn your two into one, or is that just a bit rediculous by far?

Lots of Love

Hi fi

Sent you an email this morning with a much longer - more convoluted version of events!!

Helen S is bound to know a welder - she knows every other time of tradesman!!

Dh has just sent me an email saying "Did you know Madonna has a Bugaboo, as does the woman in Sex & The City as
does Zinedine Zidane as does Carter from ER!".....this means his whole strange fettish of pretending to be Carter from ER will continue even after the twins are born!!! (I thought that strange faze would end with the injections......but then he bought the doppler, so its all started again......and now we have a pushchair the same!!!!) Seriously worried about him - he is wierd!

Hi Nikola

Wow, 8 hours in one shop!!!! You must be so excited now as it must all feel totally real. I'm going to start getting some bits when I've had my scan but as the nursary looks like Baghdad I will have to be careful as there will be no room to store anything. David is working hard on the DIY front so I hope it won't be too long.

This facination thing your DH has with Carter makes me laugh as it reminds me of a funny story. When I was in hospital waiting for my last EC I was a bit high on drugs (pre med not class A!) and this gorgeous bloke walked into the theatre wearing the blue scrubs and I thought 'cor he's nice' and the closer he got to me I realised it was non other than my David!!!! I was so embarassed. He looked bloody sexy and I now need to get him some for at home. He thinks the story is hilarious apart from the bit where his wife was letching at another bloke!

I will check out the buggy you mentioned. What colours do they do? Is there a website for them?

Hope your feet have recovered. :)

Love Dagny x

Hi Nik,

I can't believe you was in the same shop for 8 hours, you did make me laugh when you said about feeling like Pretty Woman, that film come to my mind. I am glad that your all sorted, the thing is its sounds like you had a brill time and it seems like it was hassle free and thats exactly what you want.

I have already got my buggy, but I am sure you posting what you, will gain alot of interest from others.

Makes it more real now Nikola, your little ones will be here before you know it.

Dagny - maybe you just need more of the drugs they gave you, rather than dressing dh up in scrubs!!! I always enjoyed EC day - the drugs they give out at LGI are wicked!

I'm not sure what the bugaboo website is, I'll find the brochure and let you know, but just so you can see what they look like - have a look at this website: www.lullabys.co.uk/bugaboo_frog.htm This shows you the full range of colours - red, aubergine, blue, black, grey and orange!

Shell - it was totally stress free and I enjoyed every second of it -which is how it should be for all us mums to be, after the wait and effort we've all put in to get pg in the first place!

I now feel like I've only got bits and pieces left to buy rather than EVERYTHING! So there is less stress on me to go trailing round the shops when I'm v.big!

Dagny - let me know what you think of the bugaboo!

Hi Nikola

What a completely mental looking buggy!!!!!!!!!! I love it, I can't wait till my DH gets home so I can show him. What colour did you go for? Are the car seats very light? Is the whole thing light? I can see why the celebs have them they are so cool 8)

Thanks for that. Poo the expense is what I say, I hope DH agrees. I wonder if there is a website on hospital scrubs????

TS - I'll have you know, dh is working on YOUR website right now. Has been all evening....!

Dagny - they are soooooo cool. Your dh must agree to let you have one. He is going to hate me, first its a doppler machine and now its a bugaloo - he'll put a ban on your computer so you can't get on the site and I can stop giving you ideas!!!!

The Bugaloo is definitely the lightest pram I've come across (so was the car seat). The man in the shop was demonstrating how easy they are to manaoevere (sp!) by using just his finger and thumb to steer! They seem relatively straight forward to put together too. Accessories were quite expensive, but hey by that point, cost has kind of gone out the window!!!

Being a Leeds fan, dh refuses to have anything RED in the house! So we couldn't go for the red one, but I think this is their best selling colour. I wanted aubergine but they didn't have the footmuffs that matched, so we went for navy blue with a khaki inside.

Helen & Helen, I recommend the shopping spree for a great pick me up! Just what a girl needs after throwing up for three months! Although, I was desperately in need of a foot rub at the end!!

TS - needless to say we spent ALL the wedding vouchers.......and a bit more! But hey, what the hell! They have to be the coolest kids on Ilkley Moor!
