New To IVF-July

Post by smiles2IVF »

Hello everyone-I will be staring my first round of IVF on July 18th-I have PACOS and I'm 29yrs old- I have been trying to get pregnant since age 21, but never could. I was always the girl giving baby showes for my friends but never for me- That's the day I'm waiting for, to have my OWN baby shower- :lol: My husband is 45 yrs old he has 2 kids before me-He has low sperm count- My DR says that we should do ICSI....I Have been doing a lot of research on Assisted Hatching and I was wondering if anyone feels that it's better to do that with the IVF? My insurance doesn't cover IVF so I'm hoping that my first time around for IVF will work....I read everyday stories from people just like me and I get sad sometimes becuase I think maybe I will be in the % that IVF doesn't work...My husband tells me to keep my head up and it will work out for us...Any thoughts from anyone would be great....Wish me luck in July please!!! :oops: :?

I hope everything works out for you. My husband went through ICSI. The first time was July last year. the first pregnancy turned out to be a chemical. Our second try was last October but had a negative result. Our third attemp was April of this year and we were able to be successful so far. I am 9 weeks today but am still very cautiously optomistic.

Just because it took us three times doesn't mean it will be like that for you. I know a few people who were lucky on their first try.

Stay positive. Before our third attempt I went to see a naturopath doctor and started taking some supplements and changed my diet. I stopped drinking and made sure I was getting exercise. I am not saying this is the reason we were successful but I felt very good going into the procedure.

Best wishes to you and your husband.

Hi smiles2IVF,
I just wanted to let you know I know how you feel! I am 27 and going through my first IVF at the end of June. My fingers are crossed that it works the first time...so expensive! I also am always the one throwing showers for friends and I'm ready to have one for me! :lol: We should keep in touch since we will be starting around the same time. This site is excellent and I am so glad i found it. There is so much information and such wonderful people here and it seems we just root eachother on! (I am new to this site). I will start BCP the week of June 22. Hang in there!

Thank you so much for your comment- Yes we should keep chatting on our expierence-I'm so scared through this whole thing-I to had 3 failed IUI"S-I have PCOS so I know that IVF is going to be the way I can at least have a better chance to get pregnant-I had a Biopsy of my uterus at it came back fine---SO I'm praying everyday that this IVF will for the first time-I know they will be doing ICSI and I may have them to AH just becuase of everything I have read about it. What about you do you know what they are doing for you? my whole IVF will be about $11,000 and that's just for 1 try so I'm keeping positive that it will work for me...It just has to....

Hello again!
I also have had 3 failed IUIs, plus clomid for 6 months with no luck. Fortunately, my insurance covers 50% of IVF for one cycle a year so I know the expense is a lot and I can relate to your feelings on wanting it to work the first time...(don't we all!?) I have one ovary and tube, though they don't think this is really relating to my infertility. I am unable to ovulate on my own with the one set of plumbing that I do have. We are considered to be in the "unexplained infertility" category. DH is fine, so I am really hoping that IVF will be our answer. I am so glad your biopsy came back ok, I bet that is a load off your mind! forgive me, but what is ICSI? Hang in there...I think that waiting is the hardest part! How is your husband holding up? I think mine is happy I found this website as it takes pressure off of him. He is incredibly supportive, but let's face it....guys and gals handle these things differently! :wink:

Intra-cytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) is a relatively new but well-established procedure first performed in 1992. The procedure was developed to help male factor infertility. The procedure involves injecting a single sperm into the cytoplasm of each egg using a fine glass needle.
My husband has 2 kids already from a previous relationship-But he is every supportive...I go june 26th for all my teachings on the injections I will be taking...I wish you luck RN2005!!!Hopefully we both can come out with a BFP!!! when we are all done....keep me updated please----

Smiles2ivf-
We are almost on the exact same track. We go thursday, June 19 for our teaching on injections and how the cycle will be going. I should be starting my menstrual cycle around the 23-24, then 2 days later starting BCP. I see a lot of people write that they are on BCP for varying lenghts so I don't know how long to expect to be on those. Not really looking forward to getting the injections. Funnily enough, I am a nurse an give tons of shots daily but I think it is one of those "it is better to give than to recieve" kinda situations :lol: . I am glad your DH is really supportive, it makes all the difference in the world. Keep me updated....I am getting really excited and hoping for success for the both of us!!

starting first ivf in July

Post by michellep »

Hi, I start lupron on July 2nd for my first ivf cycle. I am scared to death and feel like this is not really happening.....we have been TTC for two years and just recently had 3 failed IUIs (natural). My DH had a low count for all three, which was a surprise because his first semen analysis came out normal, at which point we were labeled "unexplained". The docs advised us that our chances with IUI were low bc of his current sperm count and that ivf has a much better success rate. I am just so nervous of putting all of these drugs into my system, I have never even been on BCP! and I am second guessing myself, like....well, maybe THIS time it would work naturally...its so weird to have to ovulate this month and NOT try to get pregnant.

Anyhow, I would love to find some women who are going through this for the first time, as well as finding women who can tell me what to expect. I am 31 and my DH is 32.

Oh I can totally relate. I remember how anxious and nervous I was to begin my first IVF cycle. All those needles and making sure to take the medicine on time. It seemed overwhelming at first. However, after my first couple of injections which I gave to myself, I realized it wasn't that bad after all. The thought of the injections is far scarier than getting the injections themselves. The stim meds use the small needles so you don't feel pain really. A couple times I felt a burning sensation when I injected the medicine but most of the time, I just felt a little pinch. Nothing to write home about. So rest your minds as much as possible and try (I know easier said than done) to not be too nervous. IVF is a rollar coaster so strap yourself in and remember, it will be so worth it when you're done and have BFP!!!
Me = 32 yr
DH = 36 yr
Diagnosis = unexplained infertility
TTC 2 years
1st IVF (Feb. 2008) = BFN
