Menopur and follistim painful in stomach?

Post by Bella123 »

Hi ladies,

I just started my stims last night, menopur and follistim pen. I was just wondering if anyone else has felt pain from them? Usually my lupron shot just hurts for about 15 minutes or so and goes away, but after those two shots last night, it really hurts and still hurts? Is this how it is going to be for the next 2 weeks or so? Any suggestions to help with the pain? Should I put pressure after each shot? Heat, cold? Thanks for any advice :)

Hello Bella,

Other then a severe rash reaction to Repronex ( I then substituted with Menopur), I had no real pain with Medopur or Follistim. I did start icing to help with the rash and then I felt nothing at all. So maybe ice may help.

Good luck

Hi Bella - I also just started my stims and am on follistim. It hurts like a B. It definitely hurts more than the lupron (once the needle is in with the lupron, I have no pain). With the follistim, I get pain as the med goes in and it did hurt last night for about 15 minutes afterwards. I wondered if I would have a bruise this morning, but I didn't. I'm doing the follistim in my leg...I thought about trying it in my stomach after the pain it caused last night, but I don't think I'm going to (chicken). I've only taken two doses...the first night I was standing while DH gave the shot, then last night I sat down and it hurt way more. I'll try it standing again today and see if that actually makes a difference. The booklet says to apply light pressure with an alcohol swab after the shot and gently massage the area. It also says you can let the med warm up a bit before the injection (which might help with the pain), but I'm leery of that.

My DH feels so guilty that I'm experiencing any pain during this process, but I guess we'll do what it takes. I'm scared to death of the PIO!!

Hi Ladies

I stimmed in November for the first time- I hate shots and here is what I did and felt nothing!!!

Lupron- Ice area VERY good - it will numb the area- pinch skin to get as much fat/skin you can - stick needle in that part

Follitism- same thing as above

Also I felt for the lupron in the upper thigh it was much much easier-
the follitism needle was a bit smaller so I did it in my stomach-

Also remember to rotate areas......

Good luck

Hi ladies,

Tennisgurl - I tried using ice last night before the menopur and follistim and it really, reallly helped! I iced for about 15 minutes with ice in a rag and I can't beleive the difference! Thank you so much.

adsgirl - I feel your pain! I icing definitely helped for me , I can't actually beleive the difference. Like you though, I do feel the medicine going in and that hurts and i don't think there is very much we can do about that :( I am alittle different b/c I give all three shots in my stomach...and the follistim leaves a little bruise everytime but doesn't hurt when it goes in and the menopur hurts so much going in (the medicine) but doesn't leave a bruise! So crazy :) I do all my shots in the day on one side and then rotate the next day. I will tell you my RE said it is perfectly fine to let the follistim come to room temp. before you inject. I have the pen and we took the cartridge out of the fridge for the first time, let it come to room temp, DH (god love him!) loaded it and gave me the shot and we were told we could keep it out of the fridge at this point. I think it stays good for 30 days after you take it out of the refridgerator????but defin. ask to make sure :)

Thanks for all the suggestions and let me know how you are doing :)

Use ice before Menopur - it stung me like a bee. The follistim was fine for me. As for the PIO, nothing can prepare you for that, warm up the oil between your legs or arms before hand, then put a heating pad on medium for 15 min after the shot - trust me it will really help with the swelling and pain, have DH rub the spot of the shot. It is all for a good cause right? :D Good luck and lots of baby dust for you!
