Thought I'd have a look around this site as my partner and I will be starting IVF in May. I'm a bit scared and not really sure what to expect. We go for a consultation with the nurses in March to meet them all and have any questions answered. I have loads!
One question I hope someone can answer for me is that I am on the contraceptiv pill continuously and the nurse said I probably won't have to have the nasal spray for down reg. No idea what this means. Does this mean the treatment won't take as long?
Never posted on a chat site before, hope this works...
Hi Shellie
Thought I would say hi & welcome to this site....
I had a failed tmt in Sept (dont let this put ypu off as lots of girls have been lucky 1st time)and am hoping to do a FET soon(frozen embryo transfer)
This site has been a godsend, there is always someone at hand to answer your questions & to hold your hand.....
I am not sure about your question but it sounds like you are right, a lot of girls on this site do not down reg with spray, I think they call it a short protocol but like I say someone will know.....
Good luck for your consultation & keep us posted, dont forget to turn up armed with a list of all your questions!! I am sure after browsing this site you will have many
I'm sorry about your failed tmt, fingers crossed for the FET.
My head tells me not to get my hopes up about having a baby but my heart rules and I don't think a day goes by without me thinking about it.
Looking around the site at the success stories has put me in a positive frame of mind though!
I don't really know the answer to your question but I take the pill for between 3-6 months at a time but for all my full ivf cycles (currently starting my 3rd) I have had to take the nasal spray once and last twice an injection of Zoladex. I take the pill because I have severe endo.
I notice your in Edinburgh, me to. Are you getting your treatment at Simpsons? They staff there couldn't be nicer, we've been going since 2001, the nurses are a godsend and even the consultants Dr Thong & Dr Viani are great. Any questions you have you should just make an appointment and ask, they are very helpful.
I would just like to take this time to say welcome to the site, everyone on here is so helpful and will help you out the best they can with any questions you may have.
Unfortunately I don't know the answer to your question, but I am sure that someone on here will be able to shed some light for you and help you out.
hi shellie,
i only joined the site nov last year but have found
everyone so lovely and helpful and such
a great support, especially when i have had my
down days.
in answer to your question, i was not on the
pill when i started ivf treatment, so i was
put on the 21 day protocol when i took the
pill for 21 days waited for a bleed then
took suprecur by injection (some girls take it by
nasal spray) and after a week started fertility
injections to stimulate the ovaries, i was also
scanned.
So i suppose the nurse means u are that little
bit ahead as u are already on the pill.
The thing is when u start, u just want it to happen
straight away, but u have to be patient, and
u will see from this site we all react differently
to the drugs, on my first treatment i had
to have a cycst aspirated which put be back
2wks.
also remember each hospital have there own
ideas and treatment protocol.
You will get there, and it will be worth it.
hope this helps alisonn
I am new to this too, I start my first IVF cycle in Feb, well taking the nasal spray anyway to down reg. The site is really helpful, I just didnt know that there were so many people out there feeling the same way .Good luck to you x
I just want to welcome you to the board and to wish you lots of luck this May. I can't answer your question as I didn't take the pill as I had blocked tubes (now been removed) but I did take the nasal spray the first two times to down reg and the 3rd time I had to inject as there was a shortage of the Synaral spray across the country. Either way, I sniffed or injected for the same amount of time - 2 weeks. This probably has no relevance to you but it might help. I have always been on a 4 week (approx) protocol.
Be strong and ask any questions you want someone will always be happy to help.
Hi Shellie
I just want to say welcome to the site its brill and its really helped me during treatments.
Sorry cant answer your question has I done use a spray I have always injected.
Thank you all for replying, it is good to know there is support out there.
I didn't realise there were so many people needing help to become parents.
Wendy, I have endo as well. They wanted to put me into early menopause to help with the pain but that would mean no babies. Don't know how long I will be able to try before I need to do that. Can I ask why you are n the pill 3-4 months at a time. The reason I ask is when I first go on the pill continuously the pain eases but after about 4 months it comes back. Do you have a break before starting the pill again?
It is a long wait between now and May, I just want to start it now.
I will be having the treatment at ERI. Is anyone else having treatment there? Any success stories? Any specific questions I should be finding out about?
In answer to your question I take the pill for a few months at a time so I can limit the number of periods I have and plan a bit of life round them. They are still crap, however, but at least I get a break between cycles of IVF and the pill doesn't really interfere with my treatment.
When you say they wanted to put you into early menopause what do you mean? I've used Synarel, the nasal spray as a treatment for the endo before for about 9 months which was a temporary menopause.
For all my treatment has never worked my experience at the ERI has always been really good and my lack of success is not in any way down to the hospital, just bad luck. So maybe it'll be a better result this time.
One gyny wanted to give me an injection to put me into menopause but another said that I shouldn't if I wanted to have a family in the future. Didn't find out too much info on it because it wasn't an option for me. My dh and I wanted to start a family asap.
When on the pill do you still get symptoms from the endo? I'm worried about going off the pill during treatment because If I'm not on the pill I get pains for 3 weeks out of 4. And I mean pains, doubled over crying not able to do anything but lie in bed. If I get pains during the treatment will that mean less of a chance for a positive.
Are there many women on this site with endo that have had positive outcomes?
