Message for Gila

Post by Jules R »

Hi Gila

I've just typed out a long message for you about feeding twins and my darling daughter deleted it - the joys of twins! I'll have another go and tell you about what we did.

I was very keen to breastfeed and so started feeding both Daniel and Charlotte. In the hospital I fed them together in the daytime when there was someone around to help me get them into position but at nighttime there didn't seem to be much support so I fed them separately. Once we were home I continued to feed them together if DH was around to help me position them but I could never manage it by myself and to be honest it was never very comfortable on my back.

Charlotte took to breastfeeding like a natural but Daniel could never latch on and lost weight steadily. So after 2 weeks we took the (difficult) decision to bottlefeed him. He instantly thrived and we definitely made the right decision. I continued to breastfeed Charlotte for 8 months.

It worked really well for us. I developed a very close relationship with Charlotte while DH did the same with Daniel as he did all of his feeds when he was around. No-one ever told me that you could feed twins in different ways and it had never occurred to me before I had them but it proved to be really successful.

Good luck with what you decide.

Jules

Thanks so much Jules for your advice.
I guess one will just have to go with the flow and see what works best at the time.
Good luck and take care!
Enjoy the twins!
Lotsa luv
