ella you need to make an appt with your OB/GYN or a reproductive endocrinologist specialist...sometimes insurance's require you to have a referral.
They will ask you several questions regarding you and your partner's family and medical histories. They will likely to an ultrasound and bloodwork on you and a semen analysis and bloodwork on your partner. They may order additional tests like a hysterosalpingogram to check to see if your fallopian tubes are clear or blocked. Once they establish a reason for the infertility (whether endometriosis, blocked tubes, low sperm etc) they will recommend a course of treatment ie. IUI/IVF etc.

Our initial consultation was in Jan 08, I had testing done Feb/Mar, I started meds Mar/April and I was pregnant by May. Of course, we paid cash upfront and did not have to wait for insurance preauthorization.

IVF can be a long stressful experience and both partners need to be fully invested for it to work. I would recommend yall discuss how much/how far you are willing to go once you get the recommnedations but before starting treatment. Sometimes it requires women to go through several cycles before a pregnancy, and yall need to establish at what lengths you are willing to go.

Good Luck!

Hi Ella - in Uk it works slightly differently to USA - would suggest you and your partner make an appointment with your gengular doctor and they can arrange all basic tests - it took us about a month from making appointment to getting test results and then GP referred us - where i am in Northamptonshire there is currently no funding for IVF so we have paid uorselves and cos I don't have gae on my side either

If you got any other questions or queries just post back or PM me - all the luck in the world

Begin IUI next month

Post by jliberta »

Hello, I begin my IUI next month for the first time using clomid, the hsg shot, and the two IUI's back to back. I am nervous...I was told by my doctor to order ICI sperm for the IUI. Has anyone heard of this? He said there is more motiles??? The doctors office will wash it.
