no eggs in retrieval

Post by min »

Hi newbie here. This was my first cycle of in vitro. there were no eggs to retrieve, but all test results were normal. Anyone else had this happen? I can't seem to find anything on the internet. I would appreciate any info.

a little info: I am 32 years old, been married 9 yrs and never used contraception. I have normal menstral cycles (but very, very painful). I have endometriosis and one ovary left with 2 endometriomas on it. I produced 10 follicles with 4-5 that were appropriate size for retrieval.

I have not seen that before, but I learn something new on here everytime I visit. You must be frustrated! Did the re offer any theories on why there were no eggs. Was there no egg in the follicles they saw, or could they just not get them? I hope they have a good plan for you for next time!

They did try 6 times for each mature follicle, there were no eggs. My estrogen levels were good so i'm not sure they know for sure. The dr seems to think the endometriosis ate away at the ovary and didn't let the eggs get into the follicle. I was confused because I thought the eggs formed inside the follicle.

A link on the left is "Risks of IVF" and on page 2 it says there is a 1% chance for no egg collection.

It doesnt provide any addition information.

I could not find the website, but I went to the library and there are a TON of books on Empty Follicle Syndrom and just a quick read, there is no reason as to why it happens, maybe age, but they think it has ALOT to do with the type of drugs (stims) that was used. One of the things it did mention was after the ER attempt, that evening doing ANOTHER HCG shot and repeating the ER, it has been know it save the cycle.

It also said that it only happens in about 1%.

Good luck and sorry I couldnt find that website, but hit your local library and get some books on it.
