Placenta Praevia!

Post by Nikola »

Hello all

Went to see my midwife today to discover I have Placenta Praevia! I knew after my last scan they were not happy with the positioning of the placenta, it appears that the two placentas have almost infused and because they are joined together they are covering the interior and exterior walls of the uterus and therefore blocking the cervix!

This means (for normal people!!) that the exit is blocked for the babies to get out. So I either (a) keep growing until I internally combust - not really an option! or (b) have an elective caesarian!

I may well have opted for this anyway, but it is a bit disappointing to have the decision made for you. Its ironic, I always used to joke that life would be so much easier if you could just pick up a baby when shopping at M&S! I guess my route to having these twins is as near to that as you can get! The conception was 'manufactured' and now the delivery will be too! Never mind.

I just wondered if any of the grown-ups (Jules/Nicky!) have any advice on Placenta Praevia or life after a caesarian.......

Nik

Like I said on the phone (have to keep my postings up and be first in here as I was on line) sorry to hear this news - I know the choice has been taken away but think no stretching of your tuppence or nasty stitches! You have some time to get your head around it but I better not be smug (and to be fair I am not) incase I get it as I seem to be sick every time I tell you I am better!
I am sure Jules or Nicky has advice on Csections - I will read with interest.
Talking of internally combusting - not sure all those chips and bagels help too much.
Massive hug as always

What are you two like  - I thought my memory was bad but even I know that Jules has posted lots of info on 'C-sections for Shell' thread - maybe re-reading this (and both of you have posted on it  ) may determine which, if any questions haven't been answered.

Hi Nikola

Sorry to hear this news. At least the twins are happily un-aware of the predicament. Have you looked up anything on the internet about it? There is lots on there as I did when I had my second bleed.

hi Dagny!

I've had my books out checking out what it says - there is nothing I can do. I just need to be wary of any bleeding and get my @ss to hospital PDQ if I see anything. It will be ok - I've always thought I was "too posh to push!!"

TS/Fi I've re-read Jules' thread about C-Sections already! Do you two think I'm daft??

I just wondered if anyone had had the placenta praevia business.....I just wondered if they managed to go to term or ended up spending weeks in hospital. This is my only real worry - who would look after my boys? TS - they would have to come and stay with you and Gabbie! Fi, they couldn't come and stay with you, I've trained them to chase cats!!!

Hee hee.

Hi Nikola

Sorry to hear about the placenta praevia. I'm afraid I know nothing about it. You might want to post on the message board on twinsclub.co.uk to see if anyone else has experienced it.

As for the dogs, I'm afraid I can't help either - definitely not a dog person, guinea pigs is as much as I can cope with!

Take care.

Nik - what are we like - I knew there was something somewhere! Glad to have the boys for a bit - it's a mad house here already!
Fi - what would we do without you - as you are more selective about your posts your brain is in gear
Take care

Hi Nikola
Sorry to hear the decision has been made for you, but I'm sure its for your safty aswell as the babies.
At least on the postive side you will have a date when they will be born and not have to hang around and maybe go over your due date. :) :)
I'm sure after all the waiting and worring we do, then go over our due dates like shell it must be so frustrating. :x

We have loads of snow here in essex, so I have not ventured out for 2 days and my Dh would not go in the loft to get my snow boots, he does not want me to go outside incase I fall over...but I need to get supplies of FLAKES of the chocolate kind.... :D :D :D
He said if I eat any more the baby will look like a flake. :?

Hope you are coping with the snow and are taking it easy.
Have you heard from Val ? Jackie T latley.

Take
care Love

Jackie I replied to your other message! I feel fine so I'm not worrying too much at this stage!

Wibbs - good to hear from you - wondered where you'd gone! Flakes....yum yum, my latest craving is double deckers - I only buy the mini ones, otherwise I would deffo turn into one! Flakes sound good though too......might have to add them to the naughty shopping list!

We've had loads of snow but unfortunately Arhtur and Jeremy wouldn't grant me special dispensation, so I still had to go out. I've walked them their usual two miles every day - so am feeling quite pleased with myself. There were a few hairy moments though and had to climb one hill on my bottom (classy girl!!) Fortunately nobody else was foolish enough to be out walking and so I wasn't spotted acting like some fruitcake!

The snow is gradually disappearing, its warmer today and so its melting. There was a bit of ice knocking around on the walk today but I managed to stay on my feet!

I need to go and renew my car tax but its wet and I don't want to go out.......I don't suppose the tax disc people will give me any special tmt either! Better go.

Have a fab weekend, catch up with you soon.,

Hi Nikola,
Sorry to read about the PP, but hey, at least you can hopefully 'schedule' the big day and not do a 'Shell'! (sorry Shell :) ) Be a lot quicker, no 12 hour labour for you.... :D !

hi Zoe

I know - I'm pleased about that! Also, if it is planned you can arrange everything else (eg parents etc) too. Lets hope they don't surprise us all and turn up earlier than our planned C-S date!

I guess another thing I've since thought about is that I don't have to feel a wuss for not giving natural childbirth a go - I've started to get my head round the idea now!!

How are you feeling? You can't have too long left because you are about 10 weeks on from me.....I think!

Hope you have a good weekend.

Hi Nik,

I know, isin't the time flying - it seems so little time since I spoke to you on your 2 week wait  I've got 7 and half weeks left, but I've had a word with Sam and asked him to be a good boy and come a couple of weeks before he's due! LOL :P Mind you, My sister's just announced she's moving in 2 weeks and we'll be helping her (I use the word 'we' loosely). So eagerly I got excited about that, then last night in bed was awake thinking 'OMG are you off your head - 35 weeks, travelling up to Aberdeen, then caos, then going up to Inverness, then back to Edinburgh all in a few days....'  I may have to review the situation later on. LOL

You're not a wuss about natural childbirth - I go through phases when I think - be nice not to have lots of pain... How long have you to go (in theory!) ? I always think this stage with twins must be doubly exciting 'cos you could go any time and your babas will be hear quicker....I just want Sam here now - I dying to see what he looks like!!

What you up to this weekend then??

hi zoe

you are a brave girl - helping your sister move house so close to your due date. I don't suppose you'll be lifting anything, I guess making tea and giving orders, so that won't be too bad. Make sure you take your hospital bag just in case!!!

Gosh 7 and half weeks isn't long - its gone so quickly. You're right about how time has flown. I remember us posting when I was waiting for my results and my first scan, that was over five months ago! Only seems like yesterday.

Due dates are wierd for twins because each hospital is different. My hospital warns you to be ready from 28 weeks but is aiming for me to reach 34-37 weeks. If they came at 34 weeks that is only 11 weeks away.....not long after you!!!! Any excuse for me to jump to the top of the list!

I've really enjoyed being pg and don't want it to end (I'm sure this will change towards the end!!) Apart from being so poorly at the beginning, once I got past that the rest has been great. I love sitting here at my computer and feeling them both kicking away. Its going to be wierd not to have that feeling anymore.

I think I got them over excited yesterday because I went to a football match and spent the entire time getting irate and shouting at Leeds players - who were bloody awful! I posted on Lisa's thread about how she was worried about her baby because she had argued with her dh! I spent all afternoon shouting at 11 men!!!

Our two better get used to footie - dh and I are season ticket holders and go every week. Dh and I are planning to take them to the first game of the season (Aug) - they will be three months old. Bless. We have bought Baby Bjorn carriers so we can take one each!

So nice to be able to look forward to happy times. Did you do anything exciting this weekend??

We are off to look at double buggies today...........!!!

love nik.xx
