I am new to this forum and I could really use a forum like this. Hubbie is supportive but I think talking to people who know what I am feeling is just what I need at this point in my treatment.
We had our egg retrieval today and I am in so much abdominal discomfort. Is this normal? Did anyone else feel abdominal discomfort. What can I take to ease the discomfort? I had a tiny amount of spotting, but nothing now.
Also we had 36 follicles but 12 of them had an egg in it. I was disappointed to find out that less than 1/2 of the follicles contained an egg. Has this happened to anyone else?
Hello I did not have any pain after retreival because I only had 7 follies but my doc gave me a prescription of vicodan for after retreival if there was discomfort. Good Luck
Me 37(oh no another yr older)
DH 42 male factor

2nd IVF/ICSI/AH 9/08 BFN
I had discomfort following both my egg retrievals. The first cycle I did I had 20 follicles and only had 4 eggs, fortunately at the time the eggs were very good and we got 4 grade 1 embryos.
We did not get pregnant with them and also tryed a frozen cycle.
I had my embryo transfer today, I still feel alittle discomfort and aching from the retrieval and have just taken paracetamol. We live in england and I think paracetamol is similar to your tylenol. Avoid taking any anti inflammatory medication.
To also make you feel better, they adjusted my meds this time and we got 12 folllicles and 12 eggs, although we got 6 fertilised embryos.
Here in england they dont really culture to blasts which makes me nervous, I had 2 2day embros transferred today.
Try to relax and use a hot water bottle on your abdomen, it helps,
take care

I tried Tylenol and it has diminished some of the tenderness. The good thing is my uterus is no longer contracting. But we got bad news today, none of our follies fertilized. Doc said my E2 level and follie size was all good (21 &22 mm's) and they were at a loss why the eggs were not matured.
Because you have had a FET I am asking you this question. How long do we have to wait to do another cycle?
I'm bummed and pretty achy right now.
Congratulations on your 6 embryo's. When is your transfer? I was also concerned that my doc were considering a two or three day transfer. I read on numerous sites that day 5 transfers have a higher success rate. I'm sure you will be successful, just stay positive, say your prayers and think baby dust....
I'm sorry to hear your news. I waited for two periods, the one that came with the unsuccessful cycle and then one more.
Here in England we generally do 2 day transfers, it makes me worry too when I read all the posts saying 5 day transfers with blasts. Over here they are just starting to look at culturing to blasts but you usually have to have quite a few embryos incase they die. The embryologist said to us that the best medium for the embryos is my body therefore we did not risk not transfering them.
We had our transfer yesterday the 19th July. We have to wait two weeks now and I am trying to keep positive.
You keep your chin up and recover from this cycle.
I have been having acupuncture too, this cycle was my best ever and I put it down to the acupuncture.
Take care

Hope u dont me jumping on the thread but I am on my first IVF cycle and having ET on wed or thurs, i was also concerned that they only wait 2days before transer WHY if success is better with blast?
Kez good luck, i didnt even know they graded the embryo, what makes grade 1 then. I am also doing accupuncture, did you have a session on the day of transfer if so before or after?
Anyway wishing you all the best, hope you are resting and DH is being a good slave. hee hee
They grade the embryos on the amount of fragmentation and edges of the cells, the less the better and the higher the grade.
Here they only freeze grade 1s and top quality grade 2, hense we only have 2 frozen as our other two embryos were grade 3, it seems a shame to waste them but the embryologist said they would not survive the thaw and in England they only allow 2 to be transferred.
I had acupuncture the night before transfer and also after the transfer and i'm having it again on friday. Apparently it helps with preventing misscarriages, as it can calm the uterus and prevent contractions.
I know they do transfers here on day 2 depending on the amount of viable embryos you have. If they leave them to culture on to blasts they may not survive in the petri dish, apparently your body is the best incubator for them. If you have loads of embryos you can risk losing a few, unfortunately we did not have enough to risk so we transfered on day 2.
good luck for wednesday/thursday, keep in touch.

Thanks Kerry. Its good to know if we decided to do another cycle we have the option of doing it right away. I've been trying to get the whole thing out of my mind. I can't help but think the docs made a mistake. Shouldn't they have known that my eggs were not matured. Anyway, I am going for a follow up with doc, I hope he gives us a very good explanation.
Kerrie, congrats on your transfer. Don't fret too much about the two day, blast thoughts. I am sure your docs will do what is best for you. I also agree with the theory that your body is the best place for the embryo's because your body has all the natural elements to nourish embryo's. How many did they transfer?
Thanks for your kind words I am getting better each day that passes.
we had 2 embryos transferred. It is so nice that you are sending good wishes, I know you must be feeling so deflated. I too felt that way after my first ivf and 2o follies resulted in only 4 eggs. It is good to hear you are feeling better each day and I am thinking of you.
Everyone says IVF treatment is like a rollercoaster ride and you think its all rubbish but it truly is, you are definitely up one minute and down the next.
Unfortunately the doctors can't tell whether the eggs are mature I wish they could, all they can do is alter your next protocol and try again. I know I'm still waiting to see if this cycle has worked but I know that I felt much better this time and I felt the doctors had used my first cycle to practice, at the time I was very tearful and upset and angry at why the doctors didn't know I only had four eggs. 20 follies were also very uncomfortable.
Think positive that your next cycle will be better. Try reflexology and acupuncture to help you relax.
I feel in two weeks I will know I am pregnant but if i'm not I know I will have given it my all and remained calm. although still early days.
Thinking of you, take care
