Hi everybody

Well today was a mix of emotions. We had to be at the hospital by 9am for bloodtests, was told to go back at 11.30 if I hadn't heard anything from them.We got back to the hospital about 11.40 but the bloods weren't back.

Anyway, the embryologist came over to talk to us. She said that we had had 10 fertilised eggs but of these we had 2 grade 2 embryos -one 2 cell and the other 3 cell. Of the other 8 they were all grade 4 or below and 4 hadn't split at all. So we have none to freeze. I find this a bit devestating because I thought they had all got to the good stage when I spoke to the embryologist the day before (although I was still a bit high on the morphine).

So the afternoon hadn't started too well. Then the doctor came over for a chat, he said that my bloods still hadn't come back (it was now 1.45pm) and they had to decide what to do. Anyway, the best news of the day was they decided to go ahead with the transfer so 'Lilo' and 'Stitch' are now happily nesting inside me. John is mad about Lilo and Stitch and insisted on calling the embryos this. I am still in a lot of pain and the doctor said I have to stay in bed and get plenty of rest, no lifting, no housework (John's face was a picture with that one!!!) no sex etc and John has to keep an eye on me to make sure I don't get any worse. We had the same nurse that stayed with me on Wednesday while I was waiting to be transferred to Maternity, she came in the theatre with me and held my hand throughout, and gave me a great big hug before we left.

After transfer we went back to John's workplace to say goodbye. It was his last day yesterday and he only went in for about 90 minutes all day. It was really nice because everyone stayed behind to say goodbye and wish him luck in his new job. So after a week full of emotion we are both very drained but things are looking exciting at the moment.

John said I have to stay in bed today, he went to the shops last night and came home with 2 bunches of carnations to cheer me up and 2 lions hugging (cuddly toy) to tell me he loves me and is very proud of me... and I thought he was unromantic.

Thank you everybody for your messages, again you have all helped me through a very rough week.

Good luck everybody on 2ww I can now fully understand how you are feeling.

You have had a rough week all told - lots of highs and lows! You are on to the next stage with some hope - look after yourself. Housework and other stuff are not important - they can wait until later. Looking after yourself and Lilo and Stitch (very bizarre as you say!) is priority number one.

I'll be thinking of you the next 2 weeks and sending positive vibes "Down the line"

Take Care

Hi LindaJane

Thank you for your kind words, it is amazing people caring like this.

Have you heard anything about when you can start treatment etc ? Which consultant are you under? My consultant is Mr Keay although Mr Kennedy did a few of my scans and made the decision to abandon the cycle in October. I think they are both really nice, although Mr Keay is always really kind and always asks how we are coping etc

You will do really well when things get going, we were given printouts from the ultrasound scan and yesterday they gave us a printout picture of the 2 embryos they were putting back in, I don't know if all clinics do this but it is great looking at that picture and thinking that they could be my son or daughter soon. It will also be a lovely thing to show our children when we explain how they got here.

Hope things get moving soon

Love

Jackie

ps the hospital staff were still talking about the chaos the snow caused at the hospital 8)

Hi Jackie

Welcome to the 2ww!!! I know how you feel about not getting any frosties. We had 12 eggs of which 7 fertilised and we got 1 8 cell and 1 6 cell which they put back the other 6 cell started to fragment and the others didn't get above 4 cell. I was gutted when he told me but am now thinking it could of been worse and we might not of got any and as they say it only takes one!!
Make sure you rest lots over the next few days and drink plenty - dh has been measuring out 2 litres every day and making sure I drink it!!! It's amazing what old women they can turn into isn't it!!!
Hope your feeling a bit better today
love Dawn

Hope you are still resting Jackie.

No news for us yet, still waiting. We are under Mr Keay, although we saw his registrar (Sarah?) for our first appointment. She was lovely as were the other people we have had contact with. My DP has been there more than I have as he goes for his sperm analysis stuff. They did say that they had about a 2 month wait for NHS in October, we had to wait for more results (genetic tests), which came just before Christmas so we did not apply for funding until end of December. Hopefully we will hear soon. We cannot complain - some people wait years just be to be seen by a specialist and then have to wait longer for treatment. We just live in the right place!

Your experience has reassured me loads so thanks for that - it is very scary just thinking about it never mind going through it.

As for Wednesday's chaos - it is the only topic of conversation in town, the record at work for getting home was 6 hours with that colleague setting off at 5AM to get to school on Thursday to arrive at 8AM to be told we were closed to students..............he was not happy!

Take care of yourself, keeping drinking the water and putting those feet well and truly up!
