Hi there,
This is my first time doing ivf and my follicles (9) were extracted yesterday. Out of the 9, 7 fertilized. We need to decide by Thursday (implantation day) on how many to put back. I think I want 3 but my hubby only wants 2. He is scared about possibly having triplets and the risk to me and the babies. In my field of work, I also see a lot of delays with triplets, as well as other problems. My question is this: Has anyone put back 3 embies and all 3 took? Or anyone that put in 3 and one expired naturally? I don't know if I could make the "choice" to abort one after trying this long to get prego.
Any info you can share I would very much appreciate
Our RE recommended we transfer 3 because of my elevated FSH. He wanted to be aggressive to improve our already reduced chance of conceiving. The embies that were transferred on day 2 were: 4-cell grade B+, 7-cell grade B+, and 5-cell grade B- (with grade A- being the highest grade). I was very concerned about having triplets, but alas, we ended up with a singleton pregnancy. In retrospect, I'm relieved that we transferred all 3, since we are now 7 weeks pregnant. However, I can understand your concerns. I would discuss the issue with your RE and let him help you decide. A lot of this depends on your age, cause of infertility, and the quality of the embryos. Hope this helps and good luck!

I assure you, triplets and higher can happen with the best of intentions of compensating for mediocre embryos. IVF is responsible for about 1% of the childbirths in the US, but about 70% of the triplets. Ouch.
Personally, I favor no more than two. If your clinic has a decent frozen embryo program, then there should be no major pressure to transfer everything fresh.
Avoid IVF and surrogacy in Ukraine. Ukrainian centers pay shills to post here under numerous sock accounts pretending to be patients in Ukraine. Centers using such deceptive advertising cannot be trusted and should be avoided.
tortillachip. I did a 3 day transfer with 3 emmys (all excellent quality). None took, but you do have a chance that all three will. My doctor explained to me that if you decide to do a day three transfer (which I did, b/c i only had 7 fertlized eggs and I didn't want the chance of losing them by waiting till day five, which in retrospect doesn't make sense), but anyhow, he explained that 3 emmys transfered on day 3 has the same pregnancy rates as 2 emmys transfered on day 5. So I went for three, I too was scared to death of triplets and my hubby only wants one baby. Now we are back to square one. If you can wait till day 5 I would recommend doing it. I wouldn't transfer 3 emmys on day five...you might be asking for trouble.
Ghost: I'm thinking 2 but am still on the fence a little. My clinic is not pressuring us to do anything. It's up to us. Thanks for your info.
Floridagirl: My doc has never discussed 3 day versus 5 day. I didn't know I had a choice. I have known several people whose embies have expired before doing the 5 day transfer.
Hi
I transferred 4 3 day embies and had a singleton.
I was 38 at the time.
Good luck, there is alot of factors that play into this decision.
I agree with Blue, have your RE help you decide.

Sorry to crash the thread, but I wanted to say hi to a special friend:
Hi Blue!
Once again, we're so happy for you and DH! I know everything will go well this time. Take care of yourself. Talk soon.

I met a girl at my gym who did a FET of 3 embys and all 3 took. She had just given birth to her triplets a month before.
She had xferred 2 on a fresh cycle and got pregnant with and had 1 baby. Then when they xferred her frosties the second time around they opted to xfer 3 since they had been frozen and all 3 ended up taking.
She saw Schoolcraft at CCRM, BTW. I guess they have a great freezer!

I would simply caution you of this... We transferred 2 embies, only one of them took, but it split and then split again. Yes, one embie turned into triplets. We lost one of the babies around 7 weeks, but we are happily carrying our identical twins and I am about 13 1/2 weeks along. I mention this because there is always a possiblity of the embie splitting on you. I hope this helps!

Thanks all of you for your two cents. Our transfer is scheduled for tomorrow at 12:15 in Tarzana, CA and I'm super excited. We will discuss every option with our doc and endo doc tomorrow. Pray for us!
Tortilla- good luck with the transfer tomorrow- I am sure that you, dh, and your RE will know what is best for you and a successful, healthy bfp!
my 2 cents: once we got the fert report, there were only 3 left, so in they went- I am 39, so a bit more aggressive seemed right, and i felt great about twins, or if trips were in the mix- we'd have dealt -
seems that the universe knows what we could handle - one lucky bean- 27wks along -
tortillachip- Best of luck with your transfer. Positive thoughts!
You are right, when you said some of your friends emmys didn't make it to day five, therefore you want to do day 3, but that's shortchanging yourself, according to my RE. As far as day 3 vs day 5, day 5 is now the first choice of RE's, is my understanding, but they still leave the option up to the patient. My RE's thinking is that waiting till day 5, until it becomes a blastocyst, you have a better chance, b/c that is when it would naturally move into the uterus (regular conception). He says that if your emmys don't make it until day 5, then its highly unlikely they would have made in the environment of your uterus.
Of course there is a chance with everything, so I'm wishing you the best!
