Insurance

Post by mjohnson »

I recently learned that some states mandate insurance companies to cover IVF. I live in one of the states under this legislature. Does anyone have any experience in holding the insurance companies responsible for this? This is our first IVF cycle, and I'm not sure we'll ever be able to afford it again...

Hi there,
I live in MA and we do have a law that requires MA-based companies to pay a portion of the treatments. But the amount varies by company and by insurance plan. We've been really fortunate that just about everything (drugs, procedures, testing) has been covered. We used an egg donor and the insurance companies do not cover those fees, only the drugs and the procedures. Good luck!!

My DP and I have insurance through the same company and I knew IVF wasn't covered under my plan so we have started saving so we can begin our first cycle next year. Today I decided to call and see if IVF was covered under his plan. I was relieved to find out that a portion is covered under his insurance plan. :D Meds are not covered :( but I am excited about not having to pay everything out-of-pocket.
