I became pregnant through IVF and am in my last week of pregancy - due Aug 3. My doctor is of the opinion that IVF babies must be delivered on or before due date, one of the reasons being because of my age, 43 - whether it be through natural, induced or c-section. So far, everything is normal. I have gestational diabetes, but even that is under control - blood sugars normal, the baby is of regular size, etc.
Does anybody know anything about this? Is this the general opinion of doctors and IVF physicians regarding IVF babies? Has anybody had any problems because of induced labor, going past the due date, etc?
Appreciate any information this group could provide.
Hello Joy
Congrats on reaching the end of your pregnancy of course i'm no doctor but i've never heard of ivf babies aving to be born on time or before due date as far as i knew once a pregnancy is conformed we were to be considered normal pregnant women. My son was 3 days over due when my waters broke i ended up being induced as the baby was indistress but no one mention this being related to ivf. i know if you go too far over you will be induced to help move bub along but this is common practise for all pregnancies if too far over due regardless of how they were conceived. Could you not ring your ivf doc to confirm if your doc is correct or not and then consider your options and just remember it is your right to refuse being induced especially if there is no medical reason for it if there was a concern for you or your baby well yes you go for it but not just because your doctor wants to save himself time and get you in and out to his schedual. good luck with the up cpming birth i hope things go as smoothly as possible for you
Hi ya
I have also never heard of ivf bubs any different when it comes to delivery. As Jomae said sometimes these doctors just want to fit you into there schedual!! My son was three weeks overdue as I was not keen on being induced (watching my friends having induced bubs put me off!!) he turned out fine. I guess your doctor knows best but I would get a second opinion on that one. Good luck!!

Actually my high risk doc told me ...I am 40 with GD also. That with us older girls...our placenta starts to break down by our due dates and that is why they induce you by your due date. A friend of mine who is 38 is being induced today for the very same reason and she is perfectly healthy, normal pregnancy and everything. It is the placenta. You dont want to take a chance on that. Good Luck!
